I'm so happy with my new GR that I have no more filter GAS, not even for the GR2 I used it at my gig on Saturday as a down swept filter for the bridge in Cochise. Very cool!

There are still a couple filters out there that I’d like to check out for curiosity sake (Pigtronix EP-2, SolidGoldFx Funkbox), but those are more “whenever I get around to it” pedals. The reason I want to check out the GR2 is because the GR1 put an end to my filter G.A.S. and I want to see just how the GR2 compares.

Maybe the slight difference in controls will make it just that little bit better? Even if it sounds the same as my GR1, I won’t be disappointed... I’ve been wanting to set up a mini board anyway: tuner, envelope, overdrive, done. What better better filter for it than another 3Leaf?

#10 for you!

And yeah, kinda jealous. I really want the GR2, especially since Spencer confirmed the new effects loop feature (loop still active in when the pedal is in buffered bypass mode). My gig tonight would cover the cost of the GR2... I keep trying to tell myself that I really need to stop buying gear, but it just never works................... :/ lol

I was going to wait at least a bit since I bought a couple things last week, but then I saw Tonefactor's latest newsletter... couldn't resist their Columbus Day sale. lol

Got the GR2 in!

So my GR2 got here yesterday and I was able to spend about 15-20 minutes last night A/B’ing the Groove Regulators side-by-side with an amp! Initial thoughts are that the GR2 is definitely capable of the smooth buttery filter sound that I like so much from the GR1, but it can also be a bit brighter too. With the internal switches all at default (Resonance at +, Low Pass and True Bypass), I had to turn the Sensitivity down quite a bit to get the GR2 to match my GR1. Check the pic below for my favorite setting on the GR1 and the comparable GR2 setting. The Tone knob on the GR2 is interesting... Think of it as a control for fine tuning the filter sound once you get an overall sound you like... it won’t make a HUGE difference, but it’ll add just enough different flavor to let you put that final polish on your favorite filter sound. Once I found the sound I wanted, turning the Tone knob would brighten or darken that sound, as opposed to making a different sound. (hope that makes sense)

I haven’t spent a large amount of time with the GR2, so the verdict is still sort of out as to which I like better. I really dig both, I think what it really comes down to is deciding between which controls you’d like better. The GR2 is like the GR1 with a little extra seasoning (duh lol). At the moment, it’d be a toss up for me to pick between the two since both are amazing sounding filters. The Tone knob seems like the secret sauce on the GR2, but for some reason there’s still just something about the GR1 that I can’t quite put my finger on. I’m definitely looking forward to spending more time with both, maybe I’ll even put both on my board so I can A/B them on a regular basis.

I've owned or played 17 fitlers and the GR1 ended my search for "The Perfect Filter." I suspect I'll be putting a few filters up for sale soon, but I DO know I'll be hanging on to both Groove Regulators.

Nice job once again, Spencer! Another home run, as far as I’m comcerned. Looking forward to that overdrive!!!

More thoughts to come, of course.

5sg.

I'm borrowing a GR1 from behndy while another filter is being built for me. I appreciate seeing gecko's settings and have found that the settings I've settled on are similar... but, I'd like to see other GR1 users settings.

Thanks!

I've only got to play the Thumb unplugged today but so far I'm digging it. The GR will likely have to wait until later this week.

Rewired my board today and got the GR2 on there! I've got it in buffered bypass mode with the Liquid Sunshine in the effects loop... looking forward to experimenting!

VP Jr. > MXR BoD > GR2 / Liquid Sunshine > Tubeworks Blue Tube > Catalinbread SFT > Boss PS-5 > TU-2 > Sansamp BDDI

Still messing with order... I'd put the tuner all the way at the end, but I use the DI on the Sansamp and then I wouldn't be able to mute to the house.
