Since the Enabler allows for ampless practice, I haven't even bothered to set up my rig following this past weekend's show. I pulled an unused TV dinner tray table out of the basement and set it up next to my computer desk, and put the pedal board on top of that. With my desktop Mac hooked up to the Enabler, it's almost like having a convenient, all-bass studio-worthy mixing console setup. I'm liking it.
One thing that is quickly becoming evident is that different basses behave differently through the Enabler - it doesn't impart the same inherent tone on everything like many other preamps (zing of the Eden, grind of the Sansamp, clank of the Hartke, etc). It's much more transparent - and therefore requires some additional tweaking when switching from bass to bass.
Speaking of tweaking though, I'm digging on the deep switch and overall functionality of the EQ. Unlike certain other "deep" buttons which are the ticket to mud city - and therefore unusable in anything but a reggae band - the deep switch on this simply makes the low end fuller without losing clarity. Going to experiment with it more, but seems to have a lot of promise.

Maybe you could run a poll here?

Assuming there is a similar thing for the Pwnzor too.
Hopefully picking up an expression for my Wonderlove this weekend.

As for Spencer not getting enough sleep and my #66 GR2 coming in a box marked #59, I'm pretty sure it will dramatically increase its collectability!
I was feeling quite unique until I realised there's bound to be someone else out there with GR2 #59 and box #66! Would love to find out who and where they are! Maybe we could arrange a swap?

Don't know how wide the frequencies are set. It was sort of a Nice Guy review. Like the clips. Hoping it was off first then on as it sounded better that way. Right now I really don't know what it sounds like.

You can't really tell when it's on, but you can sure tell when it's off. Granted, I haven't actually gotten my hands on an Enabler yet though...
I didn't really learn anything I didn't already know either, but a review from Premier Guitar is good press for Spencer. It increases his brand awareness. More people know about him, more people buy 3Leaf Pedals, so that means Spencer can keep making cool new stuff for us tone geeks. Win for everyone.

This DI definitely stay on my working pedal signal chain from now on!

Time for Part II of my Enabler review. I've already had a chance to spend a few nights with it using the headphone functionality and have been quite impressed.
On Wednesday night - with the Enabler installed as the last unit in my effects chain - I took it out to a live band rehearsal for the first time. In this application, I used it as a preamp and plugged the line out directly into my Crown power amp and Schroeder (rehearsal rig) cabinet.
With the deep switch engaged and the lower mids cut on the Enabler, I was able to largely neutralize and round out the inherent aggressive middy bite the Schroeders are known for. My Sadowsky sounded fat, warm and clean, and came through clear as a bell. And my custom 5 string was equally present, full of fundamentals.
Without question, the EQ on the Enabler allowed me to quickly find a nice set-it-and-forget-it sweet spot that didn't sound "processed" or like an "effects" pedal. It's all about retaining the natural clean sound of the actual bass.
The staging between the gain and master volume knobs is a little more complex and will require further analysis before I am able to report back on this...there's WAY more headroom than I ever had on my Eden WTDI and so I'll need to play around a little bit and consult again with the manual to find the sweet spot.
All in all, the Enabler seems to hit the spot precisely for nailing that super-warm, clean studio sound. It reminds me in many ways of my Alembic F-1x...three knobs, a couple switches, once you get the hang of how they all work together, it's the road to delightful punchy tube goodness.
If you're looking for dirt or grind in your tone, look elsewhere. This is why I've hung onto the Sansamp BDDI...not as a direct box but as a way to put in some occasional grit.
But Enabler vs. WTDI, clean pre vs. clean pre, the WTDI definitely lends its own characteristic kind of "zing" especially to the treble side - you really hear the WTDI affecting tone whereas the Enabler seems to enhance it.
Next step will be to spend some time with the Enabler patched into my big rig (F-1x/Stewart 2.1/dual Fearful 15/6/1s) to get a real sense of where the EQ knobs and switches are centered and how they notch frequencies within a three-way system.
Good work Spencer!
Lonnybass
PS have I mentioned how good the headphone setup is on this thing? Seriously, last night I was transported into the control room with Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson...it's THAT good...
