Proton #006
Groove Regulator #358 - blend added by Spencer using a new board which I suspect is similar if not identical to the GR2 board |

I'm anxious to try out Spencer's overdrive too, his other pedals are pure awesome. I told him to put me on the list for a prototype. hehehe

your welcome. i have to say now that that i've had time to get to know the proton it is my favorite filter i've ever played. there were a couple things that i had to learn about it, first my amp's eq plays a huge roll in the sound which is strange because none of my other pedals have been affected by this. second my pedal board's power doesn't give it enough juice (i guess) to open it up so i'm running it on a seperate 9v adapter and it sounds like wet funky diarrhea, just the way i like it! third the sound changes from bass to bass because of different output levels but i've found that to be the case with all filters. i'm very happy with my purchase and i think spencer is doing a great job. keep it up spence and i'll get the word out on the streets.

The big difference is that the Proton is more clean and hi-fi sounding while the GR has more gritty analoginess to it. I might dig the GR better with my fingers, but the cleaner Proton sounds better for slap to me. Proton is currently my go to filter -- sounds very good all around and simplicity is a plus for live use. I'll likely keep the GR around though for its extra features: more tweakability, effects loop, and particularly the blend.
They definitely each have distinct sounds and the knob-tweakability is another differentiation. Quote:
