3Leaf Audio - Groove Regulator review

Woot!

Full Review & Video Here.

Conclusion:
I'm not a gusher, and I usually hedge my words of praise to help my opinions come off as more than a series of sound bites. In this particular case, screw that... this pedal kicks ass! I love it! It sounds fat and warm, or seriously quacky. While it doesn't have a volume control it never explodes out of control like some filters. The feedback switch can be used to reel it in if it does start to get out of control on a particular setting. The filter is all sweet spot, where you can dial in the flavor that makes you happy without struggling through hundreds of useless settings. This pedal was here on loan, and I'll be investing in one.

It's a quality pedal, and I will agree with most of your praise. My major fault with it is that it's too transparent and doesn't get as gooey as its "Tron" equivalents. I would consider purchasing one as a portion of a synth set up, but as a standalone it's a little too bland for my current needs.

Just felt the need to balance the outpouring of praise for anyone instantly smitten by such a review. Great pedal, but by no means a silver bullet for solving everyone's filter needs.

Filters are like mixed drinks, what one person loves the next spits out.

Absolutely. It's a good pedal at a good value, but it will not be a perfect fit for everyone.

I also was underwhelmed by the Groove Regulator after all the TBFXF hype. It's cool. Not really for me, though

glad to see this review.. the video is what i've been looking for.

i have a fear of this pedal being a little to subtle in the mix. im sure sooner or later im going to buy one, and probably love it..

I loooove mine! It isn't too subtle, it isn't over the top, and I agree you don't have to wade through tons of "useless" to get to the good stuff. A great sounding, easy to use filter!

Not too subtle for me in your video.
I like transparent and I like true bypass.
Price is cheaper than most of the other good one's too

Love the sound. Spencer really did a great job. I'd agree that it's not the wettest filter in the world but if I wanted a filter that would cut through and work well for fast finger funk it would either be the GR or the EMMA.

So true, so true....I did not at all like my QTron+ nor my original Mutron III (with the attached pwr cord). Not very wet sounding filters...to me. I do dig my BassIQ, which many don't...

Well those 'Trons ARE wet, but I know what you mean about the BassIQ (which is my go-to EF as well) - that thing isn't just wet, it is sweaty and swampy like 16 mason jars fulla mucus! It does a pretty good Q-tron imitation in "Hi-Q" mode, but the normal "up" mode is the killer - an spacious and open envelope filter that is so sticky-thick it reminds me of makin love to your ol' lady!

And the reward for grossest post of the week goes to RCCollins.

Hey grygrx, doing 3Leaf review vids is SO passé I still love mine. I'll own a second, really resonant filter again someday as a compliment to it, but it really get the job done in a mix. Looks like your dog got into the Pepto Bismol again.

I've officially got .12% use for one of these in my current band, but I've still been totally gassing for one. Anyone have one they want to trade for a Tone Hammer?

I can't confirm or deny RC's comparison, despite having used a BassIQ for a while, because when I'm makin' love to an old lady, I can't really hear any sounds over the vomit I'm choking back in my mouth. But that old bat has a vacation home in Miami and I'm gonna be in that will, no matter how many times I have to sweep the cobwebs out of her chimney!

Just an FYI, old ladies tend to have a "you break it you buy it" policy regarding hips.

And replacement surgery is a pretty penny.

But does that choking on vomit have that good, wet filter sound?
