8 bit sounds live?

There are sections of songs my band does that are 8 bit, and I was wondering how that would get done live without having to carry a laptop everywhere

Keyboard/synth that has an 8 bit sound to it?

I'm not sure any pedals are out there that truly have that 8 bit sound. Only bitcrushers.

If you're talking about playing samples vs the actual band playing in 8 bit, then what about an Ipod with the samples on there as songs, then you can hook that to a DI and play the samples whenever you need them? Back before Ipods I took a tape deck and plugged the headphone out into a DI for those sorts of duties. I don't see why an Ipod wouldn't/couldn't do the same thing.

Well the issue is the 8 bit parts have live drums and it looks off if I'm doing vocals and the drummer is playing but the rest is just a sample. Is there anyway to get a good enough bitcrusher to get true 8bit sounds to sound good live?
