Are 9V batteries shrinking?

Sign in to disble this ad
I picked up a pack of 9V energizers and replaced a battery in one of my basses. Closed up the battery compartment and nothing. So I pulled out the battery and thought I put it in backwards, but that wasn't the problem. When pressing in on the battery, the preamp worked. Then I compared the old battery and the new one. The new battery (with a 2012 expiration) was definitely 1/16"-1/32" shorter than the old battery (expiration date 2005).

Has anyone else run into this? Are your crons shrinking?

Don't know if they're shrinking, but some brands are definitely slightly smaller than others. Are you saying you got two the same type and brand that were different?

Yes, same brand, but different year of manufacture. I'll have to compare it against a few others. Maybe I just have a defective battery.

I know powerbug batteries are a little bigger, and not much more expensive than regular 9V batteries. They may solve your problem.
