about a crossover

Sign in to disble this ad
how hard is it to build one ?..meaning..what should be there extra to make it work at instrument level ?..what else changes ?

i want to split my signal so only the mids and high get the effects chain and the lows stay clean then blend them back (some blender for that)

I sometimes do this same effect by running two lines, one into my chain and a clean line into the board and mixing bass back in.

You don't need to do anything to make it work with an instrument-level signal.

most crossovers work after the poweramp..some after the preamp.. so they have some kind of amplification..
sure it would work ? would it have to be designed same as a normal crossover that works after the poweramp ? (same values for the caps and coils ?)

Here's another way to tackle the problem: start with a parallel effects loop pedal so you can blend your effects with a dry, full range signal. Then put a high-pass filter (or EQ pedal) at the very front of the effects chain and all the effects placed after it will only see high-pass frequencies.

Actually, most crossovers work just BEFORE the power amp, after other signal processing. There are internal crossovers that route the amplified signal to a woofer and a tweeter, but the type of crossover that you are talking about would be designed to function with a line-level signal, which is only slightly hotter than most bass signals. A PA-style crossover would work just fine with a bass-level signal.

Or a trusty Boss LS-2 with an eq pedal and your choice of effects in one of the loops as mentioned above..

the new para looper is the one for me i think..

the thing is..a crossover is not that hard to build..at least the ones that come after the power amp..but i dont know if that would work with only the bass signal..
