Absolutely nothing

I've just joined a band of newbies, "rescued" from karaoki (but that's another story). That band nearly came to a grinding halt. One of the chief distractions was the guitarist's obsession with "HIs ToNe". The guitarist left because they moaned at him, followed by the bassist because they couldn't get it together.

So about 6 weeks ago I jumped in with my neubie son on guitar, but he was struggling with his tone on his Pod XT Live 9 (I use a BOD). We decided to perform at a showcase on saturday but since we can't use the pods we decided to do out last rehersal without them. We just used the abused amps in the rehersal room. It was the best rehersal yet. Clear, precise controlled.

The moral is the obvious one. It is the notes that people listen to. Layers of complexity just gets in the way. Sometimes the best effect is absolutely nothing.

Other times 17 tonnes of fuzz is the best effect, other times a very slight chours, another time it could be a nice reverb, yet agan, on a different day, it could be a cutting octaver.

Every session is different.

More importantly...

...this seems to be the real problem here, you can't use your effects propperly, and are coming in here saying they're unnecessary(a well known troll topic in the FX forum), to justify not using them, and make yourself feel better.

How about along with not using effects, you not bother to troll the effects forum, huh?

1st problem: Tone and Line6 PODs.

2nd problem: I throw the word 'jawn' around here in the forums like it's a real word, but "rescued from karaoki" and "neubie son"??? Huh?

3rd problem: Effects forum. I can see you under your bridge.

Playing clean can definitely be fun sometimes. It really does make us redefine our tone and playing style. Sell your Line6 and throw your life savings into pedals .
