What are the specs on the adapter?
If its 9V and 1000mA (or under) it should work fine.
Also adapter end should be the same size as the boss ones (3.5mm?)

You need to ensure it's negative tip, positive shield on the connector. It should have a label, and like Toolmybass said, the size needs to be the same.

However, the "1000mA (or under)" part is incorrect, and the size is not 3.5 mm.

Sorry yes the size is 2.1mm

And ...ahem... i have been using a 9v 1000mA since the day i got my VT, which was about a month after they were released. Works perfectly.

FWIW I've been using a 1-spot 9V adapter, daisy chained, it works fine.

The part that is incorrect is the "1000mA or under". The pedal draws what it draws, so the "...or under" part is incorrect. One-spots are what, 1500/1800mA? The amount of current that can be supplied by the adapter needs to be a minumum number, not a maximum.

I'm sure your 1000mA supply worked just fine.

The VT Bass likely draws less than 10 mA. So, practically any 9 V DC adapter with a negative center should be able to power it..... even one that puts out 20 A, as long as its no-load voltage isn't too high. The pedal will only draw as much current as it needs. A regulated model may have lower noise (hum).

I've been using a now-obsolete Boss AC Adaptor Model ACA-120G with my VT Bass since September '09. So far, no issues.

This is what's printed on its label:

INPUT: AC120V 60 Hz 6W
OUTPUT: DC 9V == 250mA
CLASS 2 POWER SUPPLY

The pictograph of its plug indicates that it's positive ground.
