Question Accidentally Moving Knobs - Roar - Best Solution?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

Long time no talk, see, post, etc. I wanted some of your input on what would be the best way to fixate a knob so I would not accidentally kick it and mess up the parameters live. For instance, sometimes when engaging my robot factory tentacle love super fuzz I accidentally hit the gain know with my foot and that messses up everything! Or when I'm using my whammy and accidentally hit the little wheel and it switches off to another setting. Would the best thing be to just tape a knob down? Maybe add a little tape under the knob so it wouldn't turn so easily? Tighten the nut lots (don't even know if that's a possibility)? I know that practice is huge but when you're singing, playing some intricate basslines, and singing at the same time...it can be tough and I need all the help possible to make things easier for me! Thanks!

I had this problem - got a true bypass looper.
Not only have I never had this problem again, but the pedal in question will forever be in better nick for it.

Try little rubber bands or rubber washers under the knob.

smo: the true bypass looper is the perfect answer but with no more room on my board, not willing to spend more money (loopers/cables), I think i'm going to have to opt out! Thanks though! when I have a smaller board I will definitely think of that though!

bassbmx: good idea. have you tried it yourself?

You could do the digitech hardwire solution and make little boxes to cover the knobs. Or just take the knobs off.

So I guess finding the settings you like and then snapping them off is out too.

Maybe try smaller shoes? Take the knob off and leave the bare pot?

No tape, brotherman.
Downsize the board or get a larger one and go the TB Looper route!

To the OP - have you tried mounting your pedals flipped over? You can step on the back of the box and it will still push the button, and it will protect your settings from clumsy feet!

In a response above someone mentioned that he should get a TB looper. Chunk said that his board is full to capacity and doesn't have the room...........therefore, I suggested that he downsize his board/get a larger board and get a TB looper.

A TB looper is the easiest solution to this and I think my point is valid.

Think about it...if he pushes forward or sideways when he presses down, the knobs will move...

I see these things on lab equipment all the time. I wish there was a non-precision audio version.

Ibanez's Tonelok is an amusing and efficient solution.

I use a Sharpie to mark the positions, then just re-check before every gig or practice.

Thanks for all the advice guys! Grygrx, those things wouldddd be perfect! Rickenboogie, I already have my settings taped and marked. Its about actually messing up the settings live. Smaller shoes is not an option. Taking the knobs off is an option though, however I do not want to resort to that. And flipping the pedal over? Then the velcro would be rendered useless, no?
