I'm going to be playing a bunch of Who songs.
My rig; Eden navigator, Crown XTI2000, Ampeg 610 cab. I'll be using my '79 p bass.
What I need is to get "as close" to Entwhistles dirty-grindy, however to describe the Live At leads sound as I can.
Also, even thought the eden has a "boost" its set at 10db I'm probably going to pick up an mxr micro amp or build a clone for solos like in Amazing Journey/Sparks.
I just need a short term solution. ...and unfortunately buying a new amp is impossible right now.
Vale drive? bass drive? Sansamp?
What would you do?

Personally I would want to check out a nice tube based overdrive. I use a Fulltone Bass-Drive but to me it just doesn't have the same nastiness.

Yup, I'm thinking about stopping by GC and getting an english muff'n to try out. I think I have a GC coupon at home I need to use anyway.
the bass drive was another choice. A shop in town has one but I'll never be able to get there in time before the gig.
Thanks

A Muff'n I think would be a good choice. The Bass-Drive is great, but I think it's more controlled and tight and like I said less nasty than the John Entwistle sound. Good luck!

I would highly recommend a Zoom PD-01 Power Drive it nails that trebley overdriven sound of Entwistle.

Does lose a slight bit of bass but it has a 2 band eq so you can get a good sound out of it but to me it was always about the treble.

Thanks. I'll check that out too. Just for kicks I bought a used English muff'n for $95. I'll see what I can do with it.

Well what he used to do was the first time bi-amping was ever used, he sent his main signal to his bass amps then sent the hi's to a guitar amp so it distorted, thats how he got his first over-driven sound.

Well after a bit of searching online I managed to pick up both a used English muff'n for $95 and a Zoom Power Drive PD-01 for $55. We'll see what happens. I've been able to get an acceptable tone using a pigtronix disnortion in the meantime.

Should be able to nail it with those two pedals.

Have fun
