Active/Passive signal control Di?

I tend to switch between active and passive basses during rehearsals, which creates frustration with our lead guitarist/singer who doubles as our recording engineer. He uses Protools, and whenever I switch from a passive to an active bass, he gets flustered because my signal level increases. I know there are other ways around this, but my question is
Can you get a pedal that will take an active signal and "lower" it so that the board sees it at the same level as a passive signal??
Probably not using the best terminology here, but hopefully you get my point.

Well it sounds like you have 2 things going on here which are entirely typical with switching between passive and active instruments:
1) louder overall volume from the active
2) lower impedance from the active

The volume issue can be solved by either turning the active bass down, or turning the passive up (by using a preamp of some type-thus making that bass 'active' as well). There are dozens of pedals and even good di's with an output volume control that could accomplish this. Simply turning your louder active bass down would also work.

The impedance issue only matters if the first item in your chain is impedance-sensitive (such as a di or preamp). Not knowing what gear you are using makes it a guessing game on this end, I'm afraid.

There are even cheap units like an EH Signal Pad that you can stomp on to decrease the active basses output. I would probably just turn my instruments volume knob down to match the passive in what I think this situation is!

Honestly, it's just as easy for the 'engineer' to simply pad or reduce gain on that input when you switch, too...
