| | | | Ad text Badder Monkey What do you think bout the following ad text:
The bass version offers Ampeg tube grind but remains intact so that your notes are distinct and punchy. There is tons of low end and the high control is voiced for tones ranging from dark Reggae flatwound all the way to funk slap and attack.
Does the pedal really sound this way, or is it the usual blabla -- the holy grail Ampeg and tubes? |

It might sound good, or even great, but ask yourself one question - If you could REALLY get the Ampeg tube sound in a relatively light and inexpensive pedal, why would anyone pay the money for, and put up with the inconvenience of lugging around an Ampeg?
If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is. | Yeah of course sounds too good to be true. But I am asking myself what the hell they' re thinking? |

That being said the official badder monkey made by Humphrey Audio is very disapointing. By using good components and matching them by ear, it's relatively easy to make a much better sounding version than the official one.

I've done my own spirited investigations and I found that increasing the value of C25 (above C5) changes the mids of the pedal and opens it up a bit.

There is always someone who thinks you can get something for nothing. There are no shortcuts but fortunately for advertisers, there are always people looking.

| | | | I got the pedal and I must say that it sounds quite good for, especially for the price on the second market. If you want a bit of grind in a parallel setting before a REDDI, it is cool. Darkglass and other Boutique-Effects are to much for this job.

I think it sounds great and I have recommended it to many people. Scott Humphreys was a real gent and went out of his way to help me with a technical issue as well.
I suspect this is just individual taste...but it's worth saying.
