Okay, hi guys.
I'm a day away (when I'm paid) from pulling the trigger on an Ashdown MAG 300H EVO II and matching 210 Cab, (at a later date adding a 410 as well).
From what I've heard and read these amps give a good clean tone, but I don't always want a clean tone
So, are there any pedals about that will add just a bit of grit? I don't want full on fuzz, I have that covered with my ME 20B, but said pedal cannot do grit.
If it makes any difference my main instruments are an MIM P bass and a Vintage EJM 96 (Jazz copy).
Thank in advance.
Yahtzee.
P.S. This is the kinda tone I would be looking for, maybe a tad less dirty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ESF6...eature=related |

I needed some grit and dirty to my tone and I got the pedal. You don't even need to turn the drive up very much to get a nice grind out of your sound. When I built my rack setup I went ahead and looked for a used Sansamp RBI here on the board. Same thing as the pedal but with a couple of extra features.
You'll get a lot of suggestions. So try to look up a few on YouTube or something. If you can hear it or try it before you buy you'll be doing yourself a big favor.

Also, Fuzzrocious has a pedal out that is a little less aggressive then their typical fuzz's. The Dark Driving has internal trim pots that you can tweak the fuzz down to an overdrive sound, or tweak them up for more grit. The builder/founder is also a TB member and supper cool dude. Easy to do business with. http://www.fuzzrociouspedals.com

The Tech 21 was something I was considering. Only drawback is that it's not cheap, but hey, nothing good is really is it (Except the Squier VM Jazz bass, the maple one, om nom nom)
EDIT:
When I say not cheap I mean by uni student standards. |

When I say not cheap I mean by uni student standards. | I like to add a bit of grit every now and then and have a BDDI. This works really well. If money is tight you can get the Behringer BDI21 (BDDI copy) for around £25 and this will do the same job. They have quite a good rep (even though they are made by B.) and ive had one for a few years now.
In fact i got mine when i was still gigging my old MAG combo and it worked wonders IMO.
I personally dont like distortion on bass, but i do like the tube type of warmth some pedals get. The VTBass i had for a short while just seemed to do too much so i sold it.

Dark Boost, no, unless you're solo or can run it into a blended fuzz to get the mids back (like Brown Dog, Attack Goat, Oxide, Team Awesome etc, even EH BBM). DB can alter your attack (good for synth sounds) and it's Very...dark. |

Does a nice fat, warm tube OD while keeping the lows. Under $50 too!

Although I'm getting more and more into the effects realm the first pedal I bought was the Sansamp BDDI. It adds a great color to it, and can do a nice grit if you tweak it right.
I've since added a Tonehammer which is awesome and different. I'm using both together for my "Max" setting which gets really hairy. I'm looking to try a Pork Loin too... I love the way they sound on all the clips around here.
