Adding a Power Input to a Soviet Big Muff

Sign in to disble this ad
So we're all pretty familiar with the pedal, the thing is, I hate batteries.

I'm interesting in performing the add-a-power-supply mod, and am not too afraid of the soldering gun.

Can anyone help with tips, instructions, part numbers, etc? It'd be nice if it could pick up power coming off a 9v dc coming from a tuner daisy chain already on the board.

Thanks a lot guys.

I haven't converted mine cuz I just use the 9v adapter that came with my 1Spot, but here's the part you need. Perhaps you can just install the jack and wire it up to a 9V battery clip. Connect that clip to the muff's own internal battery jack that way you can still operate the big muff with a battery...just incase you need to.

It's cheaper and easier to use one of those adapters that hooks up to the battery clip.

Disconnect where the black and red attaches from the battery to the board. Solder a wire from the place on the board where black was and run it to the negative lug on the new dc jack. Solder a wire from the place on the board where red was and attach it the the positive lug on the dc jack.

Remove the ground wire that runs to the rubber foot screw and attach it to the negative lug on the dc jack.

Reattach the battery to the dc jack if need be...

I've modded vintage muffs...it's really brainless!

I defnitely lol'd in my pants.

Now, I do like the idea of a simple clip that would just "fake" a battery from the dc connection, simple and fast. So where can I get one of these? Radio Shack? Guitar Center? And what to ask for?

I just don't want to go in there and sound like, "So I'm looking for this thing that would connect to a power supply and adapt to a 9v battery connection... ". Although that doesn't sound all together that bad

Ask for a center-negative DC jack. It's about the size of a nickel.
Radio Shack is your best bet. It will be in the big metal parts drawars.

PPP will ship first class, so you don't have to pay like 5-10 bucks shipping on just the jack.

Get that jack and a battery clip. Wire the battery clip to the jack (backwards to normal), and connect the clip to the internal clip.
