Adrenalinn 3 vs. Boss Slicer

Sign in to disble this ad
Both of these look like they have great features. I personally wouldn't use the amp modeling of the adrenalinn or the stereo panning on the boss but both have midi sync which is awesome. I like the idea of the boss since it seems to be more percussive but the adrenalinn looks like it has arpeggiators built in

which one would do better with bass? would it even matter since you could probably mix the signal with a blender?

also, which one would be better as a looper? I think the adrenalinn only gives you 2 bars and im not sure how long you can loop with the slicer. And im also not sure how much overdubbing you can do with these 2.

what do you think?

what I should be asking is if u have an adrenalinn 3 and say an rc-2 loop station would the slicer be redundant?

I think you're confusing the DD-7 and the slicer, but I could be wrong. My understanding, is that the slicer has no looping functionality. Again, I could be wrong.

the boss website says the slicer does 40 second of looping which would be plenty for me but I'm not sure what the linn can do for looping

Never. But I use an RC-20xl and an RC-50, plus I use the slicer in my Korg KP3, which also has a four bank sampler.

You're disregarding much of what the AdrenaLinn can do though. It lets you sequence instead of just choosing a pattern, plus it has quite a few effects. The question is: are you willing to put in the necessary time programming and otherwise figuring out the AdrenaLinn to make it worth the price of admission? If not then go for the Boss Slicer or a KP3.

its funny u should ask that. I actually sold my kp3 because it was a little too time consuming. I just ordered the adrenalinn and rc-2 cause the boomerang took up a lot of space. the adrenalinn looks easier to program based on the videos. and for the kind of looping I do.. single keyboard loop with occasional sax or bass on top I don't need a huge pedal

I have an AdrenaLinn III and from the demo of the SL-20 I watched on the Boss/Roland web site, the two devices are quite different.

AdrenaLinn III is a multi effect unit + synchronized drum machine.

The SL-20 is a sampler with some clever rhythmic features.

In my opinion, Boss didn't copy much from the Ad3. If they did, the SL-20 would be a very different pedal. I think they designed the pedal starting from their line of DJ samplers (e.g. SP-555) and loop pedals (e.g. RC-2).

Although it is possible to produce SL20-like effects with the Ad3, the Ad3 has no sampling features. One the other side, it is much more powerful and flexible as multi effects unit.

Unless you are looking for some unique sampling functionality, I think the Ad3 is a much more interesting unit.
