If your computer has the capability you may want to consider a sound card. It's much less expensive than hardware and takes all the processing off of the computer. UA (Universal Audio) makes fantastic cards that come with a full array of high end processing gear - convolution reverb, compressors, limiters, some really amazing EQ like Pultec and of course chorus etc. Just to give you an idea, the LA-2A compressor in hardware costs $3,000

Similarly, an EMT plate reverb from UA costs $319. The real thing requires its own isolated room and costs God only knows how many thousands:
