Affecting your effected tone

Sign in to disble this ad
have you found strings or pickups that enhanced the sounds your effects

For example I tried rotosound 66’s, 77’s, ernie ball hybrid slinkys. I ended up liking the rotosounds for my unaffected tone best but they didn’t have enough harmonic content to get my drive pedals as distorted as I wanted so I’ve een using the ernie balls and rolling back the tone knob on the bass. I’d rather have the tradeoff on my clean tone than on my effected tone.

A phase switch that reverses (actually more like "opposes") the two humbuckers gives a thin sound that seems to work great with lots of effects IMO. Of course I'm thinking shoegaze and postrock/metal where lots of delay and such is used.
