I get this tone with an Heliotrope but the song dates back to the 70s.
What effect do you think was used on bass?

Sorry I can't help with your question, but thanks for posting the link. I never heard this band before, now I've queued up all the samples I can find on youtube. These guys are fantastic.

Yeah they were incredible. Dirty blaxploitation funk.
As far as I know they only made 2 albums.

Sounds like a bass boost to me. you can possibly get that sound from a devi ever dark boost pedal.

maybe he played high on the neck with an octave down set to 100% wet. Then put something like an old EHX Hogs foot after it. Maybe...

You're right...it could be an ehx hog. however listening to the bass part of that song, I think it's possible to get this sound with a bit crusher pedal because the bass effect on that song kinda sounds like a bit crusher.

well you have to think of the day and age it was done in. I don't believe they would have something like that back then.

The closest thing to getting a junk/lofi sputtery tone like that would be an octave pedal i think. Maybe it was cranked through a compressor that was cranked through a solid state amp that was cranked.

I just imagine it was something cranked up way more than it should be.

We need some of the old guys from the forum to chime in on this

I am aware that bit crushers don't exist back then, but I'm just saying that the bass effect on that song kinda sounds like a bit crusher. and yeah we should get the old dudes on this forum site to shed some light on this subject and let us know what effect is being used on this song.

Randomly bumping, since I never got an answer to this one.
It sounds like bit crushing indeed but back then there were none.
Or were there?
