Question After an overdrive pedal which gives a GOOD warm valve/growl tone?

I'm thinking Captain Beefheart's "Safe as Milk" album

- check this video out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD4-O8LfwZY

the bass comes through on 1.36 to 1.50...THATS THE SOUND I'M AFTER! I've only ever found one overdrive pedal which can give that LITTLE distortion, but it sucks the bass out...any ideas for a pedal which is as sensitive to gain as the green Behringer Vintage Tube Overdrive which DOESN'T suck the bass? Maybe with a blend knob or something...?

OLC Flipster - $170 new
EBS Valvedrive - $250 used
Sansamp VT-bass - $130 used

I'm sure others will chime in, but these would be my suggestion for that potential vibe.

go for the Flipster...based on clips of all three that sounds closest to me

and OMFG....someone on TB likes Don van Vliet and friends! kudos on your impeccable taste.

Cheers guys - a couple of them sound pretty close!

Anyone know if the Ashdown "Drive Plus" pedal is sensitive enough? (i'm kinda working on a budget and I've seen a cheap 'un on ebay...no decent music shops for miles and it finishes soon so no time to see if I can try one out)

Good to see more Beefheart fans Geezer! My mates can't stand the stuff...having said that I think I scared them off him by playing them "Trout Mask" FIRST...
