AGRO CUTS LOWS =*( Now what!?

Sign in to disble this ad
SOO I thought the agro was going to be it for my overdrive/distortion sound. Loved the demos and it gets a lot of love around here. But it DEFINATLY cuts lows. I love the sound but it just sucks too much lows and sounds very close to a distorted guitar thus me and my guitar player sharing the same sonic space.

WHAT NOW!? Should I try a blend pedal to blend my clean signal back in to preserve some lows? I tried using an eq pedal before the agro(boosting lows on the eq) and stomping them at the same time; but the eq pedal just takes away from the agros glory. So I lose again! Blend pedal? Or a different pedal altogether?

as you increase the gain on virtually any pedal or amp, there is an accompanying hump/boost to the midrange that can make the low end less noticeable. I would flatten, scoop or otherwise adjust your mids to compensate - too bad the pedal version of the Agro doesn't have its own EQ - try putting the equalizer after the Agro and have it scoop the mids (rather than just boosting bass), is my advice.

Nathan; your demo is pretty much what made me buy the pedal!!!!(the other demos on the aguilar page are not so great IMO) I know that as the saturation is increased the mids come up and bass disappears a bit. But this pedal shines with the saturation cranked(i run mine at about 2/3 o clock) ; but going from my clean signal to the agro engaged there is an un deniable loss of low end that my whole band could hear!

Roll the contour back a bit, then volume-match the Agro's distorted lows to your clean lows. I run my gain at about 2:00, presence at about noon, and contour at about 3:00, and boost volume a little.

Thanks for the compliment!...sorry that you're losing low end that saddens my heart.
Are you using a passive or active bass? that tends to affect the outcome as well...I've noticed that when i'm using an older bass it reacts differently then when im using a newer one...and it sounds different depending on the bass...for example, a pbass tends to make the pedal growl more in the low mids and lose some smooth lows as compared to say a Jazz bass or a Tbird where the sound is smoother and remains nice and wooley. Maybe try a few different basses?
Also, try having the pedal louder than your clean signal and that tends to trick the ears into thinking that its bigger than it really is...

Nathan, Im using a US P Bass. Unfortunatly this is my only bass so I have no other basses to try with the pedal! Ill try the suggestions later tonight after work. I REALLY want to make this pedal work for me. I love the sound and the picking dynamics/articulation of it. It would even be fine if I were using it ON all the time. Unfortunatly, as per my bands dynamics, it only comes on as needed for certain parts and I cant sacrifice my lows as its very noticable going from clean to dirty. Ill write back tonight after tweaking and tweaking and tweaking.
