Agro Pedal Thoughts

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright guys,

Those of us who've received our Agro pedals today...let's post our thoughts so others can decide on whether or not to pull the trigger.

Here's my thoughts: Great. It's very sensitive to the touch when set on light Saturation. The pedal is voiced great for my taste and what I need and the Contour offers just enough flex for me. The Presence works great without getting that nasty, ear-piercing, spine-scratching, trebley blech. I'm very happy with it.

Anyone else?

Could you compare it to any other OD or distortion?

I presently have the Xotic BB, is the AGRO completely another thing? Can it do slightly dirty or it's just full on dirt?

Is it more in the vein of the AGS circuit of the tone hammer?

At the risk of sounding sarcastic...it's more in line with the Agro (rackmount)...as that's what it basically is.

It can do "slightly dirty" beautifully. That's what I plan on using it for most of the time (in a live setting anyway.)

I would say that the Xotic BB is in the same ballpark. The Agro is new and cheap enough to justify a purchase, compare, then resell (and only take a 10 dollar hit) in my opinion if anyone is that curious.

Subbed.

Interested to hear some takes on this pedal. I loved the 2nd Channel on the AG500 but the more I play with my Xotic BB, I'm getting similar tones so not sure if it's that much of a difference. I probably will still bite just b/c I recall it sounding so good!

True that! Please post, and preferably before early June, on the account of my birthday happening then.

No reason for me to now...

Thanks to akaTrent...

I've gigged with it a couple times and rehearsed a couple times this week. I have to say this...

There are a bunch of overdrive pedals that sound great when playing with them by yourself, but then they don't seem to sound as good once you're with a band. This pedal is the exact opposite for me. I'm not really blown away when by myself with it, but once I'm playing within a band setting, it cuts through great and sits very well within the overall mix.

Also, I can't say enough good things about the Presence knob. I (usually) use a pick when playing with any sort of overdrive or fuzz just to help out with definition. The Agro pedal really helps definition to happen when playing with my fingers as well. Having it on my board has already changed the way I play certain songs. Really dig this thing.

Well, theres still room for a fingerstyle demo, and a slappy demo!

Both of which are not my ballpark haha

Great vid akaTrent!!! Anyone else want a programmable version like the Sansamp???

Really GAS'n for this thing. I was inches away from pulling the trigger on a Fulltone Bass-Drive, but now this...... oh this! Maybe I'll just get both, and return/sell the one that looses.

What i would like to know is any comparison to the Tone Hammer. Same, better, just different?

I have a Tone Hammer, and I don't think I could quite pull of the sounds in those clips. Having a Contour and Presence knob can be very versatile on it's own. The thing about the TH is that cutting mids to scoop the sound also greatly reduces the overdrive in the AGS, so you have to pump it up even more which adds mids back into the tone. Also, the treble knob just doesn't get nearly as grindy at higher gain settings.

I like these clips, but honestly I'd like to hear some that aren't so heavily overdriven. How about some subtle grit? The TH seems to excel at that.

Why do I have a feeling that this will be the next great OD pedal that I'm just not impressed with?

+1 although it seems the TH is the way for me as I have no use for heavy sounds . . .

still like the clips - I'll listen to ANY demo of high quality even if I have no intention of ever getting it. it's a good perspective!
