| The compressor in the WTDI works as I expected. It can squash and it can produce sustain. But, the effectiveness of the compressor depends on the gain knob. Turn down the gain knob, and the compressor has very little effect. Turn the gain up high, and the compressor really gets aggressive. With the gain turned up, the compressor changes rapidly. A small change in the compressor knob produces quite a change in the compressor action.
The gain also kinda works as a volume control. The master knob is supposed to do that, but I turn the master knob up, I start to get hiss. So, I keep the master a little over 50% and use the gain to increase signal strength. Then as I tun up the gain, I need to be cautious with the compressor. Once I figured this all out, I just set it one way and leave it there. I adjust the Bass/Mid/Treble to taste.
