Is Aguilar Tone Hammer better than Eden WTDI for the price?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am trying to decide between the tone hammer and the eden wtdi. The tone hammer is about 100 dollars more. I am always intrigued by price and am wondering if you guys think the tone hammer is overpriced? I really like the subtle tone beef it adds but I can hear similar tones coming from the eden in it's demo videos, also the eden comes with a compression. anyone want to comment on how good the compressor is on the eden? Thanks and look forward to getting some feedback as I'm gonna by one or the other soon.

I just picked up a WTDI and am thinking the same thing. I'm not super happy with my tone. But I'm pretty sure the weak link in my chain is my bass, because I'm running the WTDI through a brand new Carvin HD1500 power amp into a Bergantino HT210. My bass is a Squier vintage modified jazz and it always sounded really nice through cheaper amps, but with my new gear its shortcomings are way too apparent.

They're talking about pedals, DI boxes

Yes but both are considered preamps, even though they are in a pedal format.

The compressor in the WTDI works as I expected. It can squash and it can produce sustain. But, the effectiveness of the compressor depends on the gain knob. Turn down the gain knob, and the compressor has very little effect. Turn the gain up high, and the compressor really gets aggressive. With the gain turned up, the compressor changes rapidly. A small change in the compressor knob produces quite a change in the compressor action.

The gain also kinda works as a volume control. The master knob is supposed to do that, but I turn the master knob up, I start to get hiss. So, I keep the master a little over 50% and use the gain to increase signal strength. Then as I tun up the gain, I need to be cautious with the compressor. Once I figured this all out, I just set it one way and leave it there. I adjust the Bass/Mid/Treble to taste.
