Im contemplating buying a tone hammer and was just wondering; if i ran the pedal through the power amp stage of my amp head, would i essentially have a tone hammer 500 amp?

*IF* the TH pedal puts out enough voltage to do it. Both units have sensitivity specs, if they're compatible, it's a win. I'd be surprised if they are though.

Yes, pretty much, the TH should have enough juice to hit an "effects return/line in" on your head - What head?

It hits my Crown XLS Drivecore hard enough to light the clip indicators and make my limiters kick in = no sound for about 7 seconds till reset. oops. But yeah the Crown wants 1,4Vrms and thats pretty needy for a poweramp, FWIW my BDDI didn't have enough Vrms to light the clip indicators.

I would think the TH will give a great signal to whatever you plug it into.

I'd love to know about this too. I'm ready to upgrade my amp setup and have done a boatload of research. Read about gazillions of different amps and played through many. I don't want the weight but want good clean punchy sound. A guy turned me on to the idea of running through a good preamp such as the TH into a full-range amp such as the Crown XTi-1000. Seems like a no brainer: light weight, low noise, full frequency spectrum, bridged mono would deliver 1400 watts (even if it's actually a bit lower that's still huge), and around $500ish cost. However, I've learned over the years that things that seem obvious often aren't. If anyone has run a setup like this please do tell how it worked out.

It workss, really well. No need to worry. I used the TH with a Crown XLS for about 6 months. To be honest, the TH wasn't EXACTLY what I wanted, so I switched it out for Sansamp Para Driver.

That's the beauty of it. If you want a different tone, sound, or whatever, you just swap out whatever pre your using and not have to buy a whole new amp.

It is a no-brainer, as long as you don't worry about the status of lugging around an Ampe or a Mesa.

It'll drive a power amp no problem. Used it through one and also through a Berg IP310 many times.

That said, no, it won't be just like a TH500. There are still specifics to the integration that could cause sound differences, such as how the preamp is matched to the poweramp, output limiting and soft compression, voltage regulation, etc. The TH500 preamp is also a little different from the TH pedal, especially in how the AGS kicks in and is used. How drastic the difference in the end result are I can only speculate. They might not be that different though. If you already have a TH pedal, you're close enough I'd suppose.
