Akai Deep Impact SB-1

Sign in to disble this ad
Yup, You guessed it !
I'm another crazy, hell-bent bassist on an unforgiving quest to find the holy grail of synth bass pedals... the Infamous... Akai Deep Impact SB1.
As I'm sure all of my fellow travellers in this quest have been watching them go on eBay for $800.00 + . I saw one go last month for 1500.00GBP ! Thats like $2000 american dollars!
INSANE!
Not only is it a hard pedal to find but it's even harder to get the owners to part with them.
Does ANYONE have an SB1 they are looking to sell ?
I'll pay decent money for one! 800 is my limit.

Why in the world has Akai not taken advantage of this by re-releasing the SB1 and making a boatload of money?
WHY AKAI!?? WHY!!???

Thanks for reading,
Any information anyone has on the whereabouts of this item is greatly appreciated.

I see by your join date that you are new to Talkbass. Welcome!

There is a "Wanted: Bass Guitars, Amps and Accessories" forum in the Classifieds section where you can post an ad and state what price you'd be willing to pay. I've done it but I've always been a supporting member so I'm not sure if you need a supporting membership for that or not.

FWIW, I sold mine last year for $500 here on TB so if you are willing to pay up to $800 then I'm sure you'll get some bites.

As for a reissue, we've discussed this quite a few times but AKAI have stated repeatedly that they won't rerelease it. Probably because it flopped somewhat for them the first time around and didn't sell that many units. I remember Guitar Center blowing them out for like $120 or so. They are somewhat rare right now, but if rereleased there'd be plenty of them and while I think they'd sell, I doubt they'd make a ton of money for AKAI. Because obviously if they thought they could, they'd sell it again.

What Jared said. Sad, but true. They show up on eBay fairly regulary. I even saw one go for under $300 a while back. But sadly, that was the beginning and end of that trend.

i paid $500 for mine a while back, only because i knew i could sell it easily..

its NOT worth that kind of money. it sounds and acts like a (very cool) $100 pedal. the other options available to you for $400 or so, are so much more worth it..

even a korg G5 absolutely blows the akai out of the water, and those go for $300 or so.

i know its pointless ranting about how its not worth the prices (for the record, i did own and enjoy one, it just behaves like a cheap pedal- which is charming, but nonetheless, cheap sounding) in a thread like this, but i cant help it.

Just for the interest of conversation, I've owned both the G5 and Deep Impact and the G5 certainly doesn't "blow the DI out of the water." The G5 sounds much more "cheap" to my ears...in a cool way if that's what you're going for but the DI just sounds "phat" which I think is why it's so coveted. It's got a mojo to it.

The Deep Impact is a cool pedal, but I would almost guarantee that you would regret spending $800 on one. I bought one a few years ago and it didn't live up to the hype. I sold it for a profit, which was nice, but I have not missed it for a second.

I've never played one. Some of the youtube videos of them sound great. I mostly like what it had to offer in terms of design and function.

They originally sold for like $179 on musicansfriend. Later for $139, then that famous $99 closeout. If they ever returned to those prices, I would buy one. Otherwise, no. Forget $800.

You just have to look around. Don't pay the big price. Some went for 400 recently on eBay, they pop up on forums pretty often, they're not a rare item by any mean.
I bought one for cheap a long time ago and kept it because it sounded good.
Don't follow hypes, rather try to find a pedal that works for you at a decent price.

I paid $450 for mine on this forum, and would pay $450 again for a back up. I might pay more for a new one. Then again, I use the pedal all the time and feel it is more capable than other pedals, though I am still looking to get a Korg G5. The OS and Markbass units are nice, but so many presets, and so many functions to change. Programming would consume my life.

9 presets, and 9 perimeters, easy to program, and easy to use...

$101.

seriously though, if you're not a supporting member here, i don't think you're allowed to post wanted/selling/how much does this go for threads. you might get dinged by a mod.

Yep. I wasn't a big fan either. I got mine during an MF blowout for $99 and sold it soon after for near the same amount. My only wish is that I would have waited to sell it for more money.

yah. of course if you feel like it's something you REAAAAALY want, go for it. but i was always under the impression it was good for really just one sound, and that sound only came in handy if you were trying to totally rip off pay homage to Muse?

again, not bashing it, but it's gotta be a VERSATILE beast for me to think about dropping 8 hundy on it. hell, more than 3 hundy.
