Akai SB-1 Deep Impact: Settings and info

Sign in to disble this ad
I did a search, and turned up some info and settings on the elusive SB-1...

However, for such a great pedal, not much is out there...

Can we as a group, find more info?

Soundclips, settings for patches, other pedals you are using with the SB-1, and the chain of effects.

Let's get as much info together in one place as possible.

If you have soundclips, post them, or links...

Settings... Post them...

I want an SB-1 database to read through and try...

Sweet. I just bought one, and figured we could start a resource for all SB-1 players...

When I get mine, I'll post prelims...

If you have photos, specs, schematics, anything SB-1 related... post it...

A sample and its settings

The Manual

The day I see a schematic for this will be the day I fall over dead from shock. Besides, there's very little you can do as most of the good stuff is enshrined in DSP code. So, perhaps the day I see the source code will be the day I come back from the dead!!!

But, for those geeks playing along at home, the main chips are as follows:
6264BLF8LT Hitachi 34k SRAM
AK7712A-VT AKM 20 bit ADC/DAC Sophisticated Audio DSP
HD6433642H Hitachi Microcomputer

I seriously think he IS using it for hysteria as well. Section 2 of the clip... Add some more dry bass to that, and then add a muff'd clip as well... It sounds very close to the album!!!!

As for TIRO, yes, he does use it on that song. He verified that before.

Yea, I just bought one, and I am looking to see what others are doing with it. Since this is the "Holy Grail" of bass pedals (or so I have heard it called) I thouhgt we needed a list of settings, info, pictures, and anything else.

When mine shows up, I am going to post clips with fuzz, distortion and a few other effects... I think I will also take some pretty close shots of the pedal and settings for other people to see. I might put a video together as well, but we will see how busy I am.

they pop up about once every 2 weeks. just search a couple times a month and you'll find a couple.

i've owned 2 of them (at different times) and enjoyed them. IMO they really cop 80's synth bass lines well, and really emulate a keyboard synth the best (of the pedal synths). They have an inherent sound that is different from all the other synths and uniquely Deep Impact. They also excel at Muse sounds since Chris used one. But alas, their downfall for me was their tracking and lack of flexibility (both IMO, no flaming please).

MysticBoo and I did a Synth Pedal Megathread where we reviewed the big 3, Korg G5, Deep Impact, and EHX Bass Micro Synth. Search and ye shall find our thoughts

Sorry, I just had to do it. And yeah, it's what you think it is.

But yeah, kaput, if you read the reviews, you'll see that Mark and I share similar opinions on it. It is the essential solution for Muse song covers, works nicely as a synth keyboard substitute, and is programmable. But it's far from perfect in terms of versatility and tracking. Definitely a "niche" pedal.

I put an ad in the TB classifieds and had a few responses by the end of the day.

If your serious and want one, just get the money ready to go and put in an ad.

I knew that you did the Mega thread. I read it, and I know you found the G5 by Korg to be the cats meow, over the Deep Impact, and the BMS.

I think the pedal is awesome personally. I never really liked the BMS because I felt the sounds it could produce were not what I was looking for. They are all great pedals.

I know that there are some people that have used, or are using the DI and are getting some great sounds out of it. I want to see what others are attempting to do with it. What fuzz are people using with it? Do you incorporate Octavers, Envelopes, of anything else with it? What are your settings? If we get some set ups, and clips, info, pics, and such, all in one place... This will be the searched forum... All your eggs in one basket.

Please add the link to the mega thread comparison...
