Alleva-Coppola vs. Sadowsky OTB preamps

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone try one of the Alleva-Coppola outboard preamps named "Phat" Bass in a Box ??? I hear the inboard preamps by Jimmy are really nice. I assume the outboard would be the same, but man they are pricey... I would love to compare to the Sadowsky which I've tried and liked at about $100.00 less expensive.

Spec for AC: $350.00
2 Band Eq. (Bass & Treble)
9 v. (not quick change)
Boost Only
Bass - Low 40's Hz @ 18dB.
Treble - around 6.5k @ 18dB. With a notch around 1k.
On-Off Switch for Pedal
Low Impedance Output

Sadowsky Spec: $239.00

Are the AC ones actually available anywhere? I remember a previous thread asking about them, with a pic even, but nobody knew anything at that time.

If it was me I'd campaign for AC to build their new filter-based pre into a stompbox. Screw the 2-band boost-only at that price!

They're available on the AC site.

What filter based preamp?

I have an ACG filter preamp in my Ristola 6 string. I think a filter based preamp is a fabulous idea and fabulously under estimated and under used.

Oops, I was mixing "A-C" up with "AC". Alleva-Coppola versus AC Guitars. My bad.

The one you linked to is the one that I have and love (...and I also got it from Brian at Bestbasgear to put into one of his basses. I couldn't be happier).
