Am I the only one that doesn't piggyback multiple dirt effects?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've read a lot about how "X pedals sounds great into Y pedal" or various combinations of multiple pedals....

I get dirt and modulation or things like that...but dirt into dirt or dirt into fuzz?
sky/imagination is the limit with combinations etc....

How do you tap dance all over these pedals to get changes right live?

How to do get the output levels right?
I mean, one pedal into another can create various output level changes.
especially with gain pedals, do you just set them real low in gain to avoid overloading the pedals? If so, then don't you lose the ability to use one pedal to the full desired gain?

Maybe I just don't understand all together?

enlighten me!

I use a Musket into a Sansamp RPM, and truth be told, they stay on for the entire set, short of one song where i turn off the musket. But we're heavy. I have a feeling a lot of the people here do the same thing.

Most dirt pedals have input gain and output volume. If you crank the gain, just lower the volume.
And I love layering dirt, itīs pretty awesome. Not so much live, since my band doesnīt really need it.

i usually have 3 fuzzes and an OD or two on my board. it's pretty easy to keep track of what's gonna make what get a tad louder, and it DOES give you the sound of three pedals for the space of two. ie - A or B or A -> B. you can make some pedz do some weird stuff with other things pushing 'em too.

about Pedal Dancing multiple pedz on.... i'm actaully kinda just... screw it. you can get really anal and setup a bypass looper that'll give you instant multiple ped on off options, and if i'm at a place where a pedalboard setup is super stable that's kinda cool. but nobody in the crowd's gonna notice a half second of fuzz before it turns into WHAT DID YOU DO TO GOD??!? FUZZ.

Ya, I'm failing to see the difficulty of stepping on two pedals.

yeah i dont do that either. i buy the pedal for what it does, not what it does with others.

if i want drive, i buy a drive pedal, fuzz, a fuzz pedal. i've found that it's way easier to dial in tones that way.

my rig>
woodguerilla fretless
markbass compressore
korg dt10
morley pba2 dual bass wah
ehx octave multiplexer
mxr phase90
little angel chorus clone
boss rv5
mxr m80 bass di+

it would be a bit of tap dancing, but i tend to use effects only when emphesising something, like a chorus or a bridge or a guitar solo...and i only use markbass compressore and mxr m80 all the time.
++ believe it or not, but, when i engage ehx octave multiplexer with the sub switch off(you get a fuzzy low octave that way) AND step on my m80 distortion channel,WICKED sounds emerge..so i guess, distortion into a fuzz/overdrive or vice-versa is not so bad,it can be placed somewhere,it just depends on style/type of your music/playing..cheers!

Something that I've been thinking about doing (as soon as the VT gets here...) is putting that before the Bass Muff Pi and using the VT as the dry signal. I think the two together could be very interesting.

Ive been messing with my DOD FX56 on top of a big Muff pi. It's pretty cool. Getting a lot of dub step type sounds from them, which I didn't expect.

I have multiple fuzzes. Each picked up on their own characteristics and for specific purposes.

The Shiva is essentially the noise generator for the MuRF.

Supercollider covers straight up fuzz tonez.

Wolf Computer because for a different flavor, but does wonderful things in a feedback loop.

Having more then one on at a time is purely serendipitous. If it sounds good,..."is it luck"?
