Im prevously using Logic and Abelton Live as my effectbank at the moment, but i want my gear a little more analog.

So plz give me some tips what to check out, or some plugins.

Depends what type of effect you want, and how much money you can spend on it

When I think ambient, I would get a delay, reverb, harmonizer/octaver, looper, phaser, tremolo, fuzz, and volume pedal

Mixing a phaser with a tremolo could yeild some interesting results. A volume pedal would also be good.

The EHX Stereo Electric Mistress comes to mind... Flanger and Chorus. I've had a lot of fun with mine.

The volume pedal is also a good suggestion... I've had one on my list for quite a while.

Some ring modulation, lots of reverb, delay, anything that gives vibe, some grindy/gated fuzz and synth. Also depends on what type of ambient you want - more shoegaze-ish/noisy or quiet, meditating. For first, i would definitely recommend Death by audio and copilot effects, along with some delays and probably a whammy for those high leads. For more quiet stuff, any delay you like, and 2-3 other delays you like too. Maybe some envelope filters, they sound great with delay before them. Reverb with long decay. And this http://www.pedalgeek.com/cgi-bin/new...mand=link--dsc
And don`t forget about looper!

if your going for shoegaze, and you have plenty of cash, the zvex fuzzprobe is the most amazing fuzz effect ever.

Delay, delay and more delay. Then add some delay.

Volume Pedal + Delay + Reverb.

That's about it, really. I think everything else that has been mentioned (fuzz, modulation, etc.) all have places to work with the above, but IMHO they have little to nothing to do with the ambiance itself.

The EHX Cathedral has a button for infinite reverb. I don't have experience with it, but I read the description and reviews, it looked fun.

The infinite reverb is more a "SAMPLE AND HOLD" type effect, you lose all reverb except the bit that your holding. Kinda like the hold function on boss digital delays. I didnt like it.

You guys missed a critical piece of gear for ambient sounds....EBOW with delay, reverb, looper, maybe some modulation effects. Add a fretless bass to that equation and the sound is GORGEOUS

EBOW definitely = cool ambient funness
(I completely forgot about that Oneiro, good suggestion!)

I've given up using mine at church because it p!sses off the soundguy to no end. I guess he interprets it as feedback. lol

Hey 5sg I don't know what kind of bass your using the ebow with but if you have a two pickup type (jazz etc) solo your bridge pickup and hold the ebow closer to the neck to get a "clean" ebow sound that doesn't sound like feedback. To me this is the desirable sound for an ebow but you may need a clean boost or something similar as this is much quieter than holding the ebow over a pickup that is fully on. Try different pickup comfigurations and holding the ebow in different spots to get different sounds.

That was just the last time I used it... it was the sound *I* wanted, *not* the sound the soundguy wanted. Apparently it wasn't "church" enough. lol

I've used my Ebow with active/passive, soapbar/jazz/P, etc., but I think my favorite is with my Jazz bass with both pickups on full... Depending on where I hold it, I can even get a little some overdrive out of it (particularly if I'm holding it over the bridge pickup). If I hold it closer to the neck pickup, there's a TON of harmonics and overtones... oh so cool! What you're talking about IS best for a nice clean sound though.

I admit I've never tried it with delay though. lol I always have so much fun with the Ebow by itself that it never really occurs to me to try it with anything else. lol

I DO wish they made a bass version though... the ONLY thing I've never really liked about it is that the grooves on the bottom are meant for guitar strings/spacing. Oh well, it's super fun anyway.
