Amp Modelers; any suggestions?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi.

I'm looking to buy and amp modeling pedal which has believable models for each pedal, and at least a few amps. I've considered the Line 6 bass Pod Xt, the Zoom B2, and the Digitech BP Series. Does anyone know how these effects sound? and if the models are worth anything? Thanks to anyone who helps.

You'll have to listen to them for yourself, I don't think any of them do a "convincing" job. To me, modelling is nothing more than specific eq tweaks. As an example, a Vox Valvetronix amp modelling an AC-15, vs, an AC-15. Not even close. I know those are guitar amps, but it's the same technology. So, if you want to shop online, good luck. If you want to be happy with your purchase, do it the old fashioned way, and compare the products with your own ears.

Just figure out which amp you want to model and buy something by tech 21.

Here's the thing about bass amp modeling (and I may get my butt chewed by some guys in here): In the real world, it doesn't really make any difference at all. Do you think that anyone in the audience is going to notice if you sound like you're playing through an SVT vs. an Eden setup? A single GOOD sound is going to do you a WHOLE lot more good than 100 sort-of-ok sounds.

I have both the POD X3 Live and the Boss GT-10B. Both are incredible, the amp sounds are flawless. I'd recommend the POD for ease of use and the fact it has more amp models, but I'd recommend the GT for its insane amount of configurability. I much much prefer the GT, it's also a lot more reliable than the POD.

I've always been a big fan of amp modelling. For guitar I can understand wanting a proper tube amp, but for bass I get a huge kick out of just plugging my pedal into the desk and playing. I can't imagine doing it any other way.

Hope that helps.

edit: Here's my "rig": Post Your Pedalboard: Part XI, This one goes to eleven!

zoom doesn't just do "EQ tweaks"...their models will break up like tubes do at different drive levels...not exactly the same response...but I've managed to get a couple of models on my B2.1u to be quite convincing...

The SVT is a great model on the zoom, as is the Trace Elliott...but applying the right amount of drive levels is critical...

I've even managed to get a tube model for my guitar that is quite sensative to the volume knob on my guitar (I can go from clean to dirty just by throwing more signal from my guitar to the zoom)

I wholly agree with this...but I have 3 or 4 really good sounds for ~$200...AND I'm not driving my sound man crazy with my levels...try THAT with a fancy rig...
