Amp modeling without effects??

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't need/use effects, but I kinda like the idea of amp models (not even cab models) to change up my tone. I'v ehad Pods before and I like a few of he models.

Is there anything out there that just has amp/preamp modeling without all the efects and cabs?

The Yamaha Magicstomp has that capability.

I've never tried the Yamaha, but sounds like it may work for you and you can probably pick up a used one cheap.

That said, I'm not sure there is an "amp modeling only" multi out there. My guess is that it just makes a lot more financial sense to have a multi that can do modeling and effects. Once the DSP is created, you might as well load it up with all the stuff you've got to try and market it as a do-it-all type device.

I've only fooled around with it a bit, but I always thought the Pof stuff had good amp modeling. Other than not needing the other effects, is there a reason you don't want a Pod?

Side note - bongo that is the nerdiest user title you've ever had. And I know it's super nerdy because it made me laugh.

My Yamaha BBT 500 is an amp with 'digital EQ Modelling' (same thing fwiw)
Lots of great tone.

You can probably find them for a good deal around here or at a music go round.

I didn't think I had ever seen an "amp only" modeling device. Nothing against a Pod. I've had one before, just curious if I could find something smaller and without the extras that I never seem to use.

If I want to experiment, I'm guessing my best bet is a used Bass Pod XT and just bypass effects. Not something I really NEED, but it may be fun to experiment a little again. I am happy with my tone going bass to amp, bu tit's always fun to experiment - if it can be done cheap.

OLC Flipster, - Ampeg Fliptop modeller.

Barber Linden EQ - im not sure if im right on this one, but i think its the one that has a similar tonestack to the Ampeg Fliptop.

Tech 21 VTbass - there is cab modelling, but its not vairable, its meant to be of an Ampeg 8x10 - it models both the Fliptop and SVTsounds and more, capable of subby, dub sounds to raging clanky distortion, and everything in between IMO

I just got a bass Floor Pod about a month ago,and it has 4 or 5 amp models, and just a few effects that you can ignore if needed. I use it in my bands rehearsal space instead of lugging my amp back and forth.Sounds great, and fits in the big pocket on my gig bag.I use 1 amp model, and leave it alone.

The Bass Floor Pod is interesting, but the models I like - Aguilar and Alembic - are not included. I may give the Pod X3 a whirl.
