Amp(models) effects and EQ question

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm fairly new to the world of bass effects so I basically don't really know too much about them. Currently I use a little chorus at times and some octaver. The rest of the effects on the board I'm pretty much just playing around with while practicing alone.
Anyway, my multi-effects board has a number of built in Amp Models. When using these, is it best to flatline the EQ on the amp itself to get the best tone from that particular Amp Model effect?

Thanks in advance for the help.

It's simply a matter of what sounds best to you. Personally, I don't care for any of the amp or cab models I've heard, and would rather have one nice amp than a rack full of models. But, it's your gear, and your ears that matter.

I guess what I'm wondering is what is more accurate generally. It would stand to reason that a flat EQ on the amp with the modeled amp on the pedal taking care of it would be correct, but I'm just wondering what others that use these features do.

The one problem I see is that your amp may not have a flat setting. Even with the knobs at noon there could be some EQ trickery somewhere else or the amp's EQ itself may not have any possible flat settings.

Just play it how you like it. You're not gonna get the real thing with your effects so don't try. Instead try and make new sounds with those models. You can get some interesting sounds when you blend the characteristics of the models with your amp.

Good luck!

I am able to switch the amps EQ completely off with one button so that's not a problem.
Is there a pedal that will give me(or get me close to) a realistic Fender with a flat EQ into a 15" cab?
