Amp settings when using an effects unit

Sign in to disble this ad
I just received a new (to me) 700RB-II and a few days ago I got a new Eden WTDI. I've been playing for more years than I care to admit to, but I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to effects. Tomorrow is my day to try out all this new stuff.

How much of the amp controls, like the voicing filters and boost do I use - if any - when using the WTDI? Thanks!

Just experiment.

A couples things to try.

Bass-->Eden-->GK at the instrument level input,...this would be the intuitive way to do it and will give both the GK's preamp and the Eden preamp in the signal chain (two preamps is a little overkill IMO). You'll have to knob twiddle to taste.

Bass-->GK with the Eden in the effects loop. This will give you the GK's preamp and the Eden preamp in the signal chain just in a different order and at different impedances,...knob twiddle to taste.

Bass-->Eden-->GK effects return in the FX loop (line level I think). This should completely bypass the GK's preamp leaving the Eden responsible for gain and EQ and using the GK's poweramp section for pushing your cabs.

(Someone please correct me if I botched it or forgot something.)

With all that said and not knowing how the Eden sounds not mention that I love GK's clean tone,...I'd leave the Eden at home and just use the GK as normal. If you need a DI just use the one on the 700rb. IMO YMMV Yadda Yadda Yadda. .

I like the inherent GK tone as well and that, along with reliability, is why I bought the new amp but I want to see if I can get different tones to accomodate different styles of music.

I didn't even know I could go Bass>Eden>FX Return to use the GK as just an amp section. Thanks a lot for your advice! I'll give it a try.

If you go Bass-->Eden-->effects return the only sound you'll get is the Edens (and your bass's) And that won't give you the variety of tones you seek.

Since you are seeking variety of tones I would use the Eden in the FX loop or Bass-->Eden-->GK at the instrument level. This won't bypass the GK's preamp but will at least give you different tones to mess with. Then it's just a matter of experimenting.
