Nab it... one of the radio stations I've done a lot of in-studios with over the years has one that Oteil Burbridge gave them a long time ago. I've played through it doing on-air broadcasts many times and it is amazing. Not necessarily an 'SVT' tone, but warm and phat.

Not sure how much they cost new, but I don't think they were that much in minty shape a few years back. Hmm...

I just called a guy at bass northwest in seattle, said they were 350 new. 600 is pretty optimistic... gunna keep an eye on this one though.

ah cool, that one is going for 385, this one is still 200 on ebay... but who knows how high it'll go at the end of the week. I've been poking around on some other forums and everyone who owns one loves theirs.

Had one, bought it for $400 on ebay a few years back, just recently sold one to a guy in Germany.

Great piece of equipment. Solidly built with some great tone. The only issue I ran into was that the thing was large and heavy on a pedalboard. I wouldn't pay $600, but I would pay $400.

Off the top of my head, I believe they were $450 new when they were still making them.

I've had it for a couple weeks now and this thing is awesome. The tone it adds is subtle imo but sounds great on my G&L and fenders, I didn't like it nearly as much on my Ibanez. Even with the tube not engaged, i think it still imparts tone unlike my Countryman 85 which I feel is a pretty transparent box. I haven't tried this box in the studio yet so that remains to be seen but everyone raves about it in the studio so I'm excited.

Has anyone tried different tubes on it? I popped it open and it had a groovetube 12AX7. If anyone has opinions on what "sounds better" I'm open to suggestions. I'm thinking about buying a couple extras as backups or potential replacements depending on the tone.

Question Ampeg SVT DI Box

I´m reviving this thread beacuase i recently aquired an Ampeg SVT DI Box and would like to know if somwone knows if i could use this Ampeg SVT DI Box with 220v as i´m in South America? It´s not clear on the box, it only indicates Fuse T. 5A/125v - T. 25A/250v. Do i only have to replace the fuse or use a 125 v transformer?
Thanxs.

I contacted Obeid Khan the designer of the original Ampeg SVT DI and he replied immediately with great response.
He said to use a step down transformer with the ampeg SVT DI as it is to use it in 220v environments and/or he confirmed that it can be easily rewired for either 120 or 240v. "For the fuse value you could leave the same and it would not hurt anything and still give you the protection you will need."

Doing this research i found his audio products under Khan Audio Products where he is offering a new DI box VTDI as a all tube direct box, and as being the designer of the original Ampeg SVT DI i wouldn´t hestitate on getting this new version as he describes it as a faithful re-creation of the classic Ampeg SVTDI if i were looking for one.
