Anybody tried these? Really cool concept. Plug in your earphones, plug in your bass, and mess with the effects. Seems like a cool portable practice kit. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irig/features/ http://www.peavey.com/ampkitlink/

In reality.. you can buy a used Korg Pandora for about $30 that does the same and doesn't compromise your phone, battery or have brittle cables.
I thought they were cool... I've just had too many broken things with Ipod anything connectors.

I'm mostly interested/excited about linking something like these to a multitrack recording app. |

Probably going to sell the Korg Pandora since the only thing I see myself using it for is as a "drum machine" now that I've got the iRig. I've got "Gig Baby" for iPhone with drum tracks for that feature.

I think they had to make a concession towards itunes. I play backing tracks to practice to all the time.

Which app are you talking about? I wasn't aware you could upload songs in one of these apps.

I tried using it as a sorta preamp/DI into my PreSonus....but that didn't work so well. That's not what it's meant for anyway, so I'm not complaining.

| | | | FYI, AmpKit has launched in the App Store - and we're very happy to offer a dedicated bass amp, modeled after the Fender Bassman, with a 4x10 cab in the gear store. If you get the chance to try it out, I would love to hear your thoughts. |

I'm thinking of getting one or the other to practice on, but was wondering if anyone could tell me any pros and cons on the iRig and the Ampkit.

I think a lot of the quality could be due to the iRig. They have an antifeedback feature in the software specifically to keep the iRig from feeding back, at least that's how I understand it. If I try to run the free AmpKit I get horrible feedback unless the volume is set so low you can barely hear the instrument.
I guess that's my running complaint. The volume output is simply so low you have to jack the gain/volume in the software so high it then sounds horrible. I don't pretend to have the technical knowledge to know WHY, I just know both myself and my wife thinks it sounds HORRIBLE.
Normally troubleshooting is a process of elimination. I have tried two different apps now, and both an iPhone 3G and current iPod Touch, they all sound bad when using the iRig I have. I wish I had a different iRig to try, or a different interface all together.
At this point I feel like i'm BETA testing this stuff, yet paying retail for it at the same time. It's left a sour taste. |

It may be an impedance issue, but I've heard people using the "official" 40 dollar interface having the same issue. |

| | | First shot for volume issues and other issues of the sort is to run through the FAQ that covers a lot of that (especially low output): http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irig/faq then contacting support if it doesn't work for you.
A DIY attempt will surely suffer a bit if there isn't impedance matching done. That's the bulk of getting a good signal into the device.
There should be no feedback issue in our software with iRig and minimal in others. Try the FAQ/support route above and they should get you squared away.
Also, though not the intended first use, live performance and recording have been done as pointed out. However, we do consider AmpliTube 3 the true solution in those cases as the quality is better (however, look for the next iPhone/iPad/Touch version sooner than you think that will be even better sound-wise!). Here's an example of a moderator over on a MOTU forum using iRig into their MOTU interface for a nicely-recorded track: http://bit.ly/steeleirig
Oh and thanks for the discussion, glad to be here. |

Any ideas? Yes, the volume on my bass is turned up full. | I had low output with my iRig as well. The trick for me was to use simple low impedance headphones e.g. standard iPhone headphones. When I used my AKG 271 Studio, which needs a bid of power to drive it, the volume was too low. Hope it helps. Now, I really dig my iRig. Check out my special iRig... rig Ultimate practice rig
