Amplitube LIVE Success Stories?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been using Amplitube for a few weeks now - wanted to see if anyone has used it live yet and what kind of cabling configuration they have.

I can't seem to get any decent tones out of it - may just have to stick with getting an analog pedal setup.

I'm interested to hear thoughts as well - every time I try to use it through my amp, it's feedback city.

I assume you mean the iPhone one?

I've been recording and jamming with Amplitube 2 in the studio for a couple years, and really liked the SVT emulation. But, I am loving the tones and sounds I'm getting with Amplitube 3, especially with my Jaguar bass. I'm looking replacing my stage rig with it, and also curious about configuration. I've got an ART X-15 Ultrafoot that I'd like to use as a controller, but can't get it to work, and according to IK, the StompIO is no longer in production. How are some of you controlling the software, and which audio interface are you going out of?

I use to jam with a local guitar player. Usually I use my samnamp PBDDI (and some other pedals) right into the PA. But last time I've used the iPad with Amplitube (with iRig), right into the PA. I also love the SVT emulation module and I must say I liked the iPad+Amplitube into the PA almost better than the PBDDI, at least in order to obtain that overdriven SVT tone!
The guitar player said he would have no problem with me playing live right into the PA with either the iPad or the PBDDI. Actually he said my sound was the best he have heard on stage.
Amplitube on iPad rocks!

You have to adjust the input/ output gain in Ampitube setup.

Ah awesome. Are you able to provide a screenshot so I know exactly what to look for? I am a bit of a technophobe!

(P.S - you live in the town I've always wanted to visit!)

i have a question. i just got the irig for my iphone and started messing around with it. i like the sounds i'm getting, but i was curious about running it directly into the PA. if i'm playing a live gig and going into the PA, what happens if someone calls me on my iphone. i know that sounds stupid, but is there something you need to do to prevent interuption?

Put your cell phone on "flight mode", so all transmitters/ receivers in the phone are turned off.

On Amplitube iPod/ iPhone, press the setup "knob" which is 2nd to the left at the bottom of the screen. You will see 2 sliders which control the gain on input and output. Put both on zero. Play some notes and adjust/ turn down the input or output gain if you see that the signal level is too high.
These sliders need to be adjusted when if you change basses which have lower/ higher output.
On the same screen you will need to control that the onboard mic is off!
In addition, if you use headphones turn on the "no feedback" knob to ON. If you play into PA turn this feature OFF.
Hope it is all clear, if not let me know.

so what do you mean exactly when you say "flight mode" on the iphone? i was at band practice last night and plugged my phone straight into the PA, and it sounded great. then i had my bandmate call my phone while i was playing and it all came thru the PA. do you mean to turn the ringer volume down or maybe flip the little orange mute switch on the side? or would that silence the phone completely. surely you don't mean to silence the ringtone itself, cuz all my contacts have different ringtones. i guess i'm a ******, but bear with my stupid questions, i'm new to this. but i definitely like using the phone as a preamp. it sounds killer

When you put the phone on "flight mode" it should turn off its all the cellular/ WiFi and Blue Tooth senders/ receivers. So your phone should not be able to receive calls or send anything out. That is why you can use your phone as mp3 player while flying (even though the phone should be turned off under take-off/ landing).
Look at that link to see where you switch your iPhone into flight mode
http://cultofmac.cultofmaccom.netdna...e-airplane.jpg

When this feature is ON you can do what ever you want with the iPhone, thus use it as a preamp.

When I tried using GarageBand on my mac as a pre it wasn't all that great but using multiple presets made it worse from a live standpoint... I'd find a good one and stick to it.

In any case, GarageBand, Amplitube, Ampkit etc, do not use presets. Keep it simple and start by picking an amp, adjust the amp settings to you desire. Then pick 1 additional stomp box and adjust that setup before picking and other stomp box. In any case keep it simple, it is not any different than picking a new real amp, and real effects. Work your setup gradually from scratch. Software emulation seem to obtain "bad name" because many tend to try the presents, with very limited success.... And not give the software a chance by tailoring the "hardware" in the software gradually, just as one do with real hardware.

You can create tracks in GarageBand to make "presets" they can be switched pretty freely just by changing tracks, but that being said I would do like Duke has outlined, find a good sound that >>>>works through the PA or your rig<<<<< and use the pedals and efx sparingly.

I worked my setup over headphones and that just doesn't transfer to live, that was also 5 years ago and a lot has changed since then.
