Analogman Chorus Peaking Issue

Sign in to disble this ad
I own a standard Analogman Chorus with the deep switch and internal mix trimpot mods.
I power if off 9v batteries.
I find it cuts off a little bit of my low end and can cause the slightest bit of distortion to my sound. I am considering investing in a 18v plug as it may solve my problem by increasing the headroom of the pedal.

My issue is I live in Ireland and require a UK style 240v plug. I cant buy one of these in 18v on the analog man site. Can anyone recommend a substitute.

Thank You.

Cormac,

Many of the AC/DC adapters sold in the States are actually suitable for 120 or 240 VAC, even if they're not marketed as such. You just need to make sure to check the technical specs.

That aside, here's a compact 240 AC/18 DC adapter, or one with a variety of tips. You'll still need a North American to UK power adapter plug, but those are dirt cheap.

I use a BBE Supa-Charger to power my Analogman Mini Chorus at 16 VDC. It's switchable from 120 to 240 VAC. I've never tried running my chorus at 18 volts, but 16 does make a noticeable difference.

Of course, I could just be "hearing" all the money I spent to get those extra seven volts...

P.S. I just got back from Ireland. Dublin, then down to Waterford and Cobh, around the south coast to Killorglin, and up to Galway. If I was in your neck of the woods I coulda stopped in for a pint. You can't get Bulmer's on tap here in Tennessee!

I'm going to recommend trying a 12V dc supply as in my experience it provides enough headroom for the pedal to run clean with most basses.

I tried running it at 15V for a while but I found that it provided a noticeable increase in volume that was unnecessary.

Hmmmm...y'know it never even occurred to me to try that! The Supa-Charger will put out 9, 12, or 16 volts. I've been so focused on getting the chorus off of batteries and up to 16 volts, that I never considered listening to it at 12. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks Charely
I was experimenting earlier and installed 2x 9 volt batteries in series inside the pedal, its really made a difference to the sound, its like a different pedal. I'd imagine this will drain the batteries quickly though so I'll be investing in a plug soon.
I was emailing Mike from analogman about it earlier and he suggested this plug.

Bulmers is lovely in a beer garden on a nice sunny day, I'm more of a guinness man myself though!

Unless you leave it plugged in all the time it's not going to drain the batteries any faster than if you were using 1 9v.
