Analogman Sun Face SOUNDCLIPS

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a few more decent soundclips of the Analogman Sun Face with high gain NKT275's recorded with an SM57. I made a thread all about the proper way to use such a pedal a while ago that I'd recommend going through if you want to know more about the pedal. These clips still don't translate the sound too well, at least with the speakers I'm listening to them through they sound a little too bassy and not as full, but you can tell the higher frequencies are there when I make my guitar feed back.

First at max gain all out fuzz:

Then with my volume rolled off a bit for a raging distortion sound:

http://media.putfile.com/Sunface2-60

And because there's always someone who doesn't want to play with a pick I did a quick sample of fingerstyle playing with the volume rolled back even more.

I'm actually using just my bridge pickup so these could get plenty more bassy and massive, actually. Let me know what you think!

Crap, firefox won't let it play and I can't figure out what setting to change. Anybody else have that problem?

I was able to get them to play with firefox on my computer, and I just got it and haven't mucked around with it at all. Maybe try a different browser?

Thanks. I thought I was over fuzz.
That was one that I was into for a while but did not know if it was any good on bass. Sure sounds like it to me.

I think it sounds fine with bass, but personally it's a little much for me to use when hammering out basslines and is much better geared towards the fancy stuff. Your mileage may vary though.

Oh yeah, and the guitar and amp are the Gibson SG Bass and the Ampeg V4BH. Also if anyone would like to hear me try to do anything in particular with the pedal let me know and I'll see what I can do and I would still appreciate if anyone else had anything to say about how they think this thing sounds.

Ok I listened to these samples and some of them sound a little farty... that's not the Sun Face it's the recording device. The Sun Face won't get farty like a lot of fuzzes do unless you put a buffer in front of it. Here's another soundclip I had around with less fartiness in it:

http://media.putfile.com/SunFacex

Just raging glory, no farting. Any chance to murder more Hendrix, even if it's not his song.

It works for Firefox here, I think that the streaming from Putfile is really poor though and keeps cutting out. I use mp3space.com as it lets you stream or download the mp3 and there's no bitrate limit.

Thanks! I don't know if I've ever played a pedal with as much balls as the Sun Face. I highly recommend it.

So was it intended to be a bass pedal or a guitar pedal (which works on bass too)?

It's intended as a guitar pedal, but I think it sounds cool on bass as well.

Surely does, can you turn the pedal on and off during a song without ****ing up the mids (like a sansamp does unfortunately)?

Well I wouldn't say it alters the tone as drastically as a Sansamp does, but if you're looking for something very true to your clean tone or something that will cut through, say, two distorted guitars, the Sun Face, any fuzz face clone I've tried, or fuzz in general wouldn't be my first choice. Make no mistake, the Sun Face will make you occupy a different place in the mix. It has to be used in the right sonic context on bass.

I got the Silicon Sun Face today. This one has the internal "volume" knob, which is extremely handy (I prefer it dialed down), and I think it sounds even better than my NKT275 Sun Face!

Also I have compared running the Silicon Sun Face with batteries vs. a power supply, and while you can hear a difference, to me it doesn't really make or break the tone. At least running it off from a battery isn't necessary for me to get "my" tone anyway.
