Andrew's Ultimate Boards Quest! Pt 1 Doublers Imput wanted!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

Ok so I got some problem solving/Board design to do. I need help.I don't really know the pedal thing well and I want to do it as close to "right" as I can get the first time and move on..

I will use this with a Bergantino IP112 stack. I have at this time a Ampeg SVPCL. A K+K trinity blender. A sans amp BDDI. and a sadowsky Pre. I'm up for purchasing new versions of some of these ie Programmable Sanamp.

My needs may expand/contract as i think this through more.

Pedal board number one will be my every gig small board with a emphasis on multiple (ie 2) electric basses instruments Also a double bass and its mixing signals tuning and EQ needs.

Even though some problems could be solved with instrument knob adjustments IE tone knob...volume knob. I don't want that I want to punch with my feet and play.

Overall:

Switch able between 2 electrics and a Upright

Master DI out

Master tuner (that mutes)

Effects loop for 2nd effects board more on that later different thread.

A master Power supply IE one cord.

For the Electrics I want

1)a "Brown Tone" eq line. IE B15/motown Blues Bass sound.

2)a Clean tone in the Traditional vein Ampeg ish but more sheen and high end than above. this will be my main sound I want it a little Just "tight" on the bottom

3)A Slap EQ / Slight Vol boost.

Upright I want.

A blender with phantom power for a mic imput and onboard EQ.

Now I'm aware of the Bassbone and similar products on the market and am willing to incorporate them but.... not a a sonic compromise . If it can be done in a "better" or more reliable way manner I want to know about it.

Finally I want it all mounted on a one grab out the door board thats a small/light as I can get it.

Thanks for your help.

Aj

The mic input for the DB is going to be your biggest hassle. There are not many pedal-sized solutions ready-to-use. Raven Labs used to make a small box that would about fit the bill, but they are hard to find. Summit makes their 2BA mic/line blender, a half-rack-width unit. I think Fishman might also have something that would work. Aside from those, you might have to get a small mixer, either with a mic pre built in, or buying a small standalone mic pre to go with it.

None of the options named would have a stomp switch or any of the other features you want, so you'd also have to buy a switcher/router box from Loop-master, Radial, Lehle, Wobo, Barge, etc.

For the electric tone you might look into the ME Submarine, the Barber Linden, the OLC Flipster, and the upcoming new Aguilar Tone Hammer.

Hi

I'm familiar with the Raven Labs PMB-II and I can substitute a D-tar Solice. Little bulky but probally the thing.

http://www.d-tar.com/solstice.shtml

Yes I assume I'll need a looper type thing and a ABC box type thing and ways of coloring (preamps) the electric's tone. Tuner (wich I have) and sothing with a DI

I'm hoping for some specific ideas on how to run it all together/signal chain

Check out the Lehle 3@1. It allows you to switch between three different inputs, and the selected channel is sent to two buffered parallel outputs.

electric --> tone boxes --> channel 1 of Lehle

DB --> blender/pre --> channel 2 of Lehle

Channel 3 of Lehle = mute

output 1 --> DI --> amp and FOH

output 2 --> tuner

Edit: on second thought the mute would also kill signal to the tuner. Hmm...

Ok, Great, What do I need in order to not run my electrics tone boxes in a tone sucking line like that? I know it's probably a subtle thing and going to triple the size but it's my tone!

I also need to put Two electrics in.

Two thoughts: one, either you want tone boxes in your chain or you don't. Two, most of the better-quality tone boxes have a hardwire "true" bypass which greatly reduces the amount of tone suckage compared to old-school Boss/DOD/Ibanez effects you might be used to.

Oh, and a third: There are separate standalone "true bypass" switcher boxes which allow you to put all of your tone devices in a loop and switch them all out of the path at the same time through one junction. It's not perfect, but it works.

I'm sorry If I'm being confusing or annoying , I appreciate your help.

If I can make it happen I think i want separate loops for my tone boxes. I realize your saying it's subtle and it's not like it used to be but If I can do I'd like to know how.

Check out LoopMaster for custom loop/switching systems. He can put together a good switching solution for you that combines A/B/C & Loops in one unit. A seperate tuner mute & output is also available in the same unit. It's all true bypass stuff & very well made. It's nice not having everything in your signal chain when you don't want it. I just ordered a box from him to be the "master control" on my pedalboard.

Hi

I appreciate all the help, What I need though is some one to lay the thing out. Similar to what bongo started but to work with me/it until its what I'm after.

Who's Kung Fu is Strong?

Anyone?
