So, the band, The Raveonettes, are one of my favorite bands of all time. While i use them as a HUGE influence on my guitar playing, i kind of shrug them off when it comes to bass.

For whatever reason, i was listening to the album, 'Chain Gang of Love' the other week and realizing what an awesome distorted bass tone is on that album.

THEE tone i am looking for is the one from the song, "That Great Love Sound". Here's a live vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ6gyYZpbzg (album version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUR-9zaaxWc )

So, Fender Mustang and some Fender tube amp... but that's where i loose it. I've done some research on Sharin Foo's (the beautiful lady playing bass) pedal board... BUT it was all from when she switched over to playing guitar in 2007ish (the song/record in question is from 2003). In any case it included 2 Proco RATs, a boss TR-2, a couple Boss RV-5s, and a ZVEX Vexter.

I'm not sure if any of those dirt pedals translate to the bass sound heard there though...

...so... dirt gurus, help me please!!!

*in b4 'cranked ampeg'.

I would use a buzzy fuzz In A Blend to preserve lows (unless you don't need them that much for lo fi). Guyatone FZ, fuzzhugger Peppermint, a rat, even the DOD Flashback fuzz.
