another "how to get that sound" thread..

Sign in to disble this ad
a friend from austria sent me a link to this band called metalycee. I listened to their stuff on myspace and I got curious how they did the bass sound to "mad tom song"... itīs that ultra bright pick thing, but it sounds different..
I like the sound and maybe someone can point me to a pedal to emulate this sound... ehx steel leather maybe (I havenīt tried one myself, so I might be totally off)?

the link is:

I see he plays a Ripper, and it sounds like one too.

He plays Eden heads, his sound is incredibly clear and ugly.

Ripper's have a pretty unique sound, sounds like its unprocessed.

I can sort of get this tone on my Stringray. Cut all your bass, all of it, every inch, and probably most of your mids as well. A totally clean amp like the Eden would be key.

Then fire your guitarist.

Voila!

Speaking about the intro part, to me it is an electric bass recorded also acoustically through a mic and blended to the effected(?) sound.

hi, I am the bass player of metalycee. sometimes I read the discussions on talkbass, but never registered till a friend who is a forum regular told me about this discussion...

costyou is right, we recorded my bass acoustically with a LDC mic and there is some D.I. blended in.
with this band we record everything ourselves and experiment a lot with mic positions, rooms and so on. thereīs also a lot of synths & pedals in our arsenal.
if you have any more questions Iīd be happy to answer them.
