I know there are a ton of threads on how to get dubstep wobble, but I want someone to tell me exactly how to get this exact tone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRftXCiqfQ8

Hard to do on bass guitar. You want to start with a good sawtooth sound that tracks well, so you want a Korg G5 or a Line 6 M9, double it with an octaver to keep the fat bottom end (so you'd probably want an analog octaver like an OC-2 for the tone and an LS-2 to do the blending), and you want to end with a good treadle-controlled filter like the Moog MF-101 or a Meatwad clone. But there's more subtlety in that sound that you will struggle to cop, I think most of it will involve being an excellent bass player.
Again, great bass sound.

I would recommend looking in the direction of adding a sample rate reducer to your sawtooth/filter solution to do that (search for my Bugcrusher samples in this forum to see how that might work out). |

kevteop has a pretty good idea on it. It's not a cheap process, this dubstep fad.

| | | | Bassnectar is awesome, I've never been able to understand why there are so many haters when there are CLEARLY way more horrible things affecting the music industry today.
That said, spend $300 on a used synth and download some mixing software. You can try to get the dubstep tone on a bass guitar but it will probably drive you nuts. |

All in a short time, there's LFO rate change, frequency changes, and that formant filter sound coming in (and probably more stuff).
Fantastic sound though. |

| | | | I would definitely use at least 2 pedals. probably synth pedal with a sawtooth sound and a another pedal as an autowah that could be kicked in and out. would probably be much easier to do with an analog synth though instead of bass guitar because of tracking issues. |

But other posters and threads go into great detail about how to attain this with gated fuzzes, octaves, filters and expression pedals.

I know I would like to do everything on my bass, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and admit that it would be much easier (and probably cheaper) to do with a synth. |

This genre is incredibly oversaturated. It also hasn't really gone anywhere since 2006. |

On a side note, I hate the dubstepification of other music genre! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
