Another "how to get that sound!!?" (Videogamole!)

Only a sample but a goodie and the second phrase is the chorus(me likes being capt'n obvious!)

Sounds like synth though something tells me I can get pretty close with my bass. I'm relatively new to effects and the closest I've played to that was a big muff. Though if sounds very organic in its own ways and my guess is that I would also need a compressed signal to get to that.

Anyone wants to put their 2cents? Thanks!

I can't hear anything in that clip that sounds radically different to a 5-string bass with the tone rolled off. What am I missing?

Why not 6? Joking aside, all 5 stringers sound the same with the tone rolled off? I would think not but I've tried only 4 or 5... Listening with good headphones, I would have never made that assumption. I still thank you for pointing something out but it's a bit like telling me, "Doesn't sound all that different from a bass..." don't you think?

You said the closest sound you've heard was a Big Muff, I couldn't hear any fuzz at all, which is why I said it sounds like a plain old bass guitar to me and privately wondered why you were posting this in the Effects forum.

Aie aie! I would to! Listening with decent heaphones, this sounds nothing like a plain bass to me but I might be wrong, but if that's the case and that it is a plain old bass then I'm sure samples would be found practically all over the internet and honnestly, I've yet to hear something similar before. Bummmmmp di bump!

It's a P-bass played with a pick.

Sounds completely normal to me as well, certainly no effects that I could hear. I have a Bass Big Muff and didn't hear anything resembling it in there. Not sure what you heard there sir, but I missed it completely!

Just plug in and play. "Maybe" a little compression. I don't hear any fuzz. Are you sure you posted the right clip?

To summarise: We all think you're mental and I'm right.

Which is a huge relief to me, frankly!

If there's any distortion on that track - but I didn't notice anything really, given how deep in the mix the bass is - I think it's a result of heavy compression. Honestly I think given any quality 5-string bass (any given Yamaha would cop it) with the tone rolled off you would come close enough.

I'm tempted to suggest that the distortion you're hearing is from your quality headphones because I've since put this sample through my studio monitors and it's not obvious to me. There's something rough about it, but it's not deliberate distortion. Maybe compression on the bass track or maybe just an artefact of the MPEG compression on the YouTube track, I don't know.

WHoa WHoa whoa whoa whoa!!!

I'm sorry. Couldn't resist quoting the deep lyrics.

Anyway, it sounds like a normal j-bass to me.

Quick apology for sounding rude before if I sounded rude. I'm not deliberately rude, I just drink too much, too often. I will concede that maybe your ears are sharper than mine - mine are quite old and have done nearly 1000 gigs now.

Yes I posted the right clip. Thought you're quite right on the fuzz, it's more like a light distortion/fuzziness.

Hahaha! : ) I do believe I'm seen as somewhat mental on that and that would be completely fine with me, I think that's what you originally apologized for later and I find it more funny than anything. I don't take myself that seriously!

I'm using Sony MDR-7509HD which I believe to be a bit above average though definitely not the high-end. I hear the bass more than fine in all it's complexity(detail) and can attest that the source sounds relatively similar(when compared with the HQ version obviously.) I'd like to see someone here record a 5er with no effect(maybe a bit of comp.) with the tone rolled off and see if it really sounds alike. It's the rough part that has me confused I guess...stupid me.

That, was really informative. What's the point of posting this really, must have some time on your hands eh? The more the merrier. Though you would be stopped at the door sadly.

I wouldn't call that part lyrics. It's another voice to the mix really, using the human vox as another instrument is somewhat common.

And that would make me respect your judgment on it infinitely more than mine. You sounded more like someone I hang out with than anybody else who replied. No need to appologize my good sire. Though I will take this one obviously!

Yup, just toneless, dark, with one little finger slide thrown in. ( well not a slide, but a one note "vibrato")

Ack! Ramblers! I'll get a clip of the ending chorus which highlights the bass more and if anybody tells me it's a dry signal I swear I'll throw an effing tantrum(not that I'm not doing so already, kinda...perhaps) Ugh, gotta sleep.
