ANOTHER octave thread?

Sign in to disble this ad
After weighing out this and that, and this and that, I can't get past the OC2 tone.

If, when i can't stand not having an octave pedal anymore and can't find a used OC-2...

...Will the OC-3's OC-2 mode sound the same?

I've also revisited the EHX Octave multiplexer but forget how it sounds.

...Will EHX' Octave Multiplexer give me a similar tone, or is the OC the way to go?

Having tried all 3 of those, don't waste your time, get a MicroPOG.

Yeah but some of us don't want a digital polyphonic sound but a old school analog octave divider sound and the OC-2 [no not the OC-2 setting in the OC-3, it isn't the same] E~H Octave Multiplexer, MXR m-88, Foxrox octron, Dod octoplus ect do and are that.

I loved the tone of my old Octave Multiplexer. But couldn't get past the crazy glitching.

Yes it is a bit glitchy and that is why the MXR is on my board, but, when you need glitchy synth sounds a fuzz and a trem [one that does a square wave really shines] in to a Multiplexer just KILLS.

I asked myself this question 3 years ago () and the answer is a big fat no. More detailed explanation.

So I guess I probably want an OC-2.

How does the tone of the Octave Multiplexer compare?
(if it does)

Is there anything else on the market that sounds like the OC-2?

"Setting the octaves at approx 70% level creates the most faithful reproduction of the OC-2. And, if you weren't familiar with the OC-2 you'd basically have no idea there was a difference."

I think it'd bug the hell outta me.

1. The Multiplexer is more flexible; with it's EQs and "sub" switch which actually cuts mud and gives you a very nasty synthy sound.

2. Yes: GUYATONE MO-3 Micro Octaver, Danelectro chilidog, MI AUDIO Pollyanna Octave, and I'm sure "b'ringer" makes a cheep nock-off.

I didn't hear the same tone come from the MO-3...though its saw pulse grit was really awesome.

I'm looking for the big fat boss sub octave sound...but the EQ and switch made me want to go for it.

I may wind up going for the EHX but I'm a fan of guyatone stuff...

Thanks for the input!

(i hope more people chime in too...)

That's like telling someone to get a bicycle when they're trying to find a cool pogo stick.

I want a pogostick that hops big fat arcs. I don't want a bicycle.

Someone recently posted about a new Dunlop or MXR bass octave pedal that supposed to be out at the beginning of 2009. I'll search the threads. Does anyone else remember this? Was I dreaming?

Found the thread. It was by Vegas532. New MXR stuff at Bass Player Live...

I guess Vegas saw it a Bass Player Live.

I tried the Chili Dog. Great toy, sounds similar to the OC-2, but you notice the difference when you only have the octave-down sound. OC-2 sounds more synthy... I kept the OC-2 of course, since it wasn't much more expensive once I found one...

This Exar box looks interesting in that it's got tone knobs for the generated octaves. Maybe someone's selling it for less stupid money somewhere...

i got the OC 2... it depends on what you liked about OC2???

if you want that OCT1 then if you find a DOD octoplus you are there and better... OCT2 is no good on OC2 any way...

danelectro chill dog is similar to OC2 but the sound is more organic

Can you really not find a used OC-2? They're on fleaBay all the time.
