Another Tool Thread... ;)

Hi guys,

Sorry about this, but here is a thread about Tool effects (how original!). Just to set the record straight - I DID A SEARCH but couldn't find a definite answer to my question.

I want a distortion tone from Jambi. Not the heavy distorted part from the intro (~5secs to ~15secs), but the sound that kicks in at ~44secs, and then again at ~1.54

From what I could decifer, this is a Turbo Rat blended with the clean tone, but there was no definite answer. Am I correct in thinking this?

Does JC also kick in the Boss EQ pedal at the same time? If he does, how is the EQ set up? Is it to bring back some of the low end, or is it just a tone shaper? EQ before or after the Rat?

Then, when the Tonebender comes in (which I believe is the heavier distortion) does that replace the Ratted tone? Or does it replace the clean tone? Or does it replace both? Or is it in addition to both?

Cheers

uh..

He runs the clean through the 810 and rat-eq through the 412 all of the time. Everything else is in addition to those arrangements...and he supposedly has three distortions, so your guess is as good as mine on that

The Turbo Rat and Boss EQ are on all the time in his dirty channel. When he kicks in at 0:44, you are hearing that mixed with his clean channel. I believe he also has his flanger at the point to. The EQ is set to boost lows I believe, and I think it is after the Rat.

His Tonebender is what he uses in the intro and during the solo. He also has a Sansamp GT2 that I don't believe is used in that song.

Honestly to me it sounds like a SansAmp.

Pretty sure he has the Tonbender on in the intro and the talkbox solo.

Sorry, which question wasn't answered yet? the sound that kicks in at 0:44 is his clean tone mixed with the Turbo Rat/EQ combo. When the tonebender is switched on, that is on his clean channel; the Rat/EQ are always on in channel 2.

These were the questions that wasn't answered. However, you just did answer it here, which I thank you for:

5 hours of sleep for the last 5 days.

That sound is only the Wal and flanger. Don't forget the two signals he's driving.
