As most people on here, I crave the day that I come across a digitech bass whammy in good condition for somewhere under $600

I've heard the only thing that will give you that type of sound or options would be in a multi-effects pedal of some kind. I'll admit I wanted one after I heard Justin Chancellor use one on Disposition by Tool, but I'm wondering if some of the multi-effects pedals would have the same options or settings as the bass whammy such as the 5th up, 6th up harmonies and pitch shift stuff as well.

If there are, I'm dying to know! If there aren't, then please sign this petition that someone else on here created to get the Bass Whammy re-issued by Digitech! (You know what, sign it anyhow plz! )

If there were any multis with 5th/6th up we'd all own them

The Digitech BP200 has the 5th/Octave up setting that Chancellor used in Disposition. I used to own one, and I will say that you can play Disposition just fine with it, and it tracks perfectly on higher notes. However, if you try doing octave-up effects playing down on the low E (or D), the tracking starts to get ... eh

It does not have 5th/6th up, however

Does anyone ever use one of the Boss PS-* pedals with an expression pedal in place of a whammy? I played around with an expression pedal and my PS-3 for a while, but I'm not really into whammy effects. You can set the range to whatever you want (+ or - 1 octave) on the PS-3.

Well I'm sure you considered this but wouldn't the low-end retention be horrible on a pedal like that? Most of the time unless it has the word "bass" in the title or a "B" in the model name, then the boss pedal isn't going to cut it for a bass player imo =/

But I will check that out, its not as much about the whammy pedal but moreso about the harmonies and such. Thanks for the suggestion though!

No, PS-3 is fine on bass. It's a digital pitch shifter and delay, so it's full range. There is no bass-specific delay, and the pitch shifter is just a form of manipulated delay, so it's not going to cut your low end. The pitch-shifted sound is rather, uh, cheesey, but same for the whammy.

The current re-issue Whammy IV can do everything but the 5th/Oct needed for Disposition. The tracking is pretty good on bass.

The old DigiTech XP-100 Whammy/Wah has all the functions of the Bass Whammy, including the 5th/Oct used in Disposition. However the tracking is pretty poor overall on bass with this. It can be found for 100-150 bucks. I haven't tried the newer DigiTech multi effects pedals, but I haven't heard good things about the whammy portion.

The Bass Whammy is the pedal used by Justin, has all the settigs of course, and provides the best tracking overall for bass. However it obviously comes with the heftiest price tag.

If you've got the cash and can justify spending it on a Bass Whammy, it really is a cool pedal to have. Plus if things don't work out, odds are you're going to get the same return selling it from what you paid for it.

I own a bass whammy. before I bought it i had an XP-100. Frankly, I don't think that the Bass whammy is $350 -$450 better. I really thought that the XP100 tracked fine and you can play disposition with it no problem. Find an XP-100 on ebay and you'll be happy, trust me.

Justin Chancellor makes it worth $350-450 more

lol, that's probably quite true

I honestly had never heard one used before I checked out ToolBassPlayer (WalBassPlayer on here) on YouTube using it and demonstrating it in one of his vids. It's an awesome effect to have, i mainly just want the harmonies and not so much fixated on the shifting stuff =/
