Any good 1-space Effects box w/tuner?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking about getting a multi effects box to put in a single slot of my head case.

I'd like something decent, and now reading about the TC Electronics M-ONE which seems pretty nice.

Is there anything like that (or better) that may come with a tuner option as well?

Actually, tuner or no tuner... please recommend one for me. I don't typically use effects, but getting into a project where I may need various options, so I don't want to buy a bunch of pedals!

Thanks for the help.

A 10b seems a little bit overkill for someone just looking for a few options, and at $500, not really cost effective. Does it come in a Rack mount version? Which was what the OP was looking for, right?

Don't recommend something just because you have something and like it- it has no bearing on the OP's request.

What sort of price range are you looking at? There's a wide variety of 1-space units out there of good quality.

Thanks guys. Yes, rack mount is what I'm going for and around $250 price range tops would be cool (I'm ok with used items)

Again, as long as the effects are good quality, I wouldn't mind paying a little more (maybe ~$350?)

Also... and how can I forget this! > The simpler in functionality, the better.

Effects that I have used that I do like are flanger, and some chorus. I've also used some fuzz pedals and such.

Thanks again.

In that range, you'll want to go used. I'd look at the Boss VF-1, Lexicon MPX G2. You're at the range for a new TC Electronic G Major 2, but that one doesn't have any distortion/drive/fuzz effects.

Great, Thanks! That gives me enough to start looking them up and comparing.

Thanks again.

BOSS SE-70 or BOSS VF-1. You can even control them with regular 'ole footswitches if you want.

Heck, get both of these- they're designed to sit next to each other in a single rack space, and both of them together can be had for around $260. A lot of Stick players use/used the SE-70/VF-1 combo.

VF-1 even supports tap tempo for rate effects. It never ceases to amaze me how awesome these two units are. More so when you consider they were made in the friggin' 1990's and here we are in 2010.

The only downside is you have to mount them to a shelf, they're kind of heavy for their size, and they use annoying power bricks that'll clunk around in your rack if you don't zip tie them in somehow.

It's been really hard trying to replace the VF-1. Every time I sold one, I ended up buying another because nothing else had as good a variety of effects in such a small package. It looks like I'll be replacing mine with an Axe-FX in the near future, as it, unlike most other rack units, covers the range of weird effects the VF-1 has along with easy to dial-in regular effects (dialing in a good-sounding phaser for bass was far harder on the Eventide Eclipse than it is on the VF-1). That says a lot about the VF-1 to me- I have to buy a damn 2u $2000 effect to replace a 1/2u $150 effect

To be fair, they were $400 new

Weren't you just selling one?

I actually think I'm going to keep mine around. I've bought and sold and re-bought enough of them to know I should always keep one on hand.
