Any good tuner pedal other than the TU-2?

I am not ready to spend $80+ on a TU-2 and was wondering if there was not a cheaper alternative that gets the job done and is reliable?

Thanks!

So how much are you willing to pay? Most good pedal tuners are in the $80-$130 range.

Maybe a used korg dt-10 is what you need.

How about the Behringer TU300?

It is in the $30 range.

Good reviews on Harmony Central:

I like my Korg DT-10 a lot, but the Turbo Tuner is way better (and also more expensive).

If I were in the market for an affordable pedal tuner now, I would definitely get a Korg Pitchblack.

Some people like the Ibanez LU20. It costs about $40 if you buy it new.

If I ever get a tuner pedal I would also get the Korg Pitchblack.

I was looking into the planetwaves chromatic pedal tuner but I haven't bought it yet. It seems to be decent (better than the behringer I would think).

Edit: I just checked some reviews and there are 2 issues with this thing. The battery latch breaks really fast and if you power it with a daisy chain power supply there can be noise issues. Apart from that it looks like a great tuner (I don't know how accurate it is tho).

I just received my Turbo Tuner and it's simply amazing! Super fast note tracking, accurate tuning, and it's very well made, yet small. I can even see the display outside in daylight!!

The Sonic Stomp Box strobe tuner is exceptional. Costs a bit more, but worth it. Check it out: http://www.turbo-tuner.com/

The thing is that I don't get out of tune much, due to my basses have good lutherie and me stretching my strings properly. Also my adjustments are minor, like 1/8 step down on one or two strings, as I can hear very easily when I am out of tune.

I am not sure I necessarily need a Porsche when all I need is a Toyota to get that job done.

But I sure need a pedal that's not going to buzz when in mute, that's my #1 feature.

I read the Behringer has that issue, but users seem to be split on that one. Anyone here uses it and is happy or regrets it?

Thanks!

Our guitarist had the Behringer, a real piece of junk IMO. Get the PitchBlack, my DT-10 is dead quiet in mute mode, and also offers silent switching.

Ibanez LU-20. Great display. Great build quality. +/- 1 cent. True Bypass. Why spend more?

+1 to that. The Boss is as good as it gets in it's price range, it's reliable and pretty accurate.

I also have a Planet Waves Chromatic Pedal Tuner, and IME it is neither. I've sent mine back to Dunlop twice because it became erratic or stopped working entirely. Dunlop's customer service is great...in both cases they sent me a brand new pedal with no questions asked...but personally I would prefer it if it just worked

I would avoid cheap tuners if using them at a gig.
I use a planet waves chromatic tuner , and love it. never had any issues.

I know alot of guys swear by a TU-2, but I swore them off after using a TU-2 live onstage and seeing its inability to track worth a darn. the display never settled on a note, the indicator just spazzed out until I gave up and tuned by ear. Maybe the ambient noise of the gig threw it off, I don't know. Bottom line: the TU-2 as designed failed me when I really needed it. the planet waves never has.

they are around $90 new

If you're gigging or have any plans or the possibility of gigging in the near future, it's worth spending the small amount of extra money and selecting a tuners that's roadworthy and kickable. Purchasing new I'd go for a Pitchblack, but I'm using a DT-10 which I'm sure you could grab used for a reasonable amount.

Ultimately I'd like a Sonic Research ST-200, but the price tag is a little hefty, but it is a bargain compared to the Peterson Strobe Tuners.

I have a Fender Pt-100, I got it for $10 because the guy told me one of the outputs didn't work.

It was a muted output.

I win, and the thing is BRIGHT.

I have a DT-10, picked it up on ebay for $40. Great tuner.

I bought a TU-2 but wish I had bought the Korg Pitchblack. The Pitchblack has +/- 1 cent accuracy whereas the TU-2 has +/- 3 cent accuracy.

I would get the Pitchblack.
