Question any ideas where im going wrong??

Sign in to disble this ad
i bought a bass effects pedal a couple of weeks ago and im having a few problems with it. Its a electro harmonix steel leather. the problem seems to occour when i link it in the loop with my other pedals. As far as i can tell it works fine when linked up on its own. the problem is if i turn the pedal on using the 9v power supply that i have then the light stays on all the time but it switch switches it between off and broken/ very quiet crackly sound. if i dont have the power supply on i click the switch and the battery powers the light on my power supply and a couple of my other pedals. all my other pedals work perfectly and dont seem to be affected by it being in the loop. im sure there is something i am doing wrong and just wondered if anyone had any advice??

I am a little confused with the wording of what you said. First off, how many pedals do you have? Do they all have their own 9V adapter? Are you plugging them all into the same power strip? Please make the distinction between power sources very clear.

i have a 10 output 9volt power supply powering all 7 of my effects pedals. the other 6 work fine and the one in question works fine when not linked in a series with the others. thanks for taking interest, this is the 1st effects board that iv assembled and i desperately want it to work!
cheers nick.

well first try putting a battery in the steel leather, and using it in the chain with a battery.

If it works then that means one of two things: the power jack on it is bad (i doubt cause you said it works by itself like that) or your cable isnt giving it truely enough power.

You may want to give it its own wall wart.

I would take a guess that this pedal is needing more current than the power brick can give when used in conjunction with other pedals. This sounds like the brick does not have isolated output. What is the name of your power source?

putting the battery in or out doesnt seem to make any difference.

From http://www.ehx.com/assets/instructio...el-leather.pdf: "IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: The Steel Leather will not work with the same power adaptor that is daisy chained to other pedals in its signal chain. Please run the Steel Leather off of its own power adapter or a battery. The battery will last a long time."

The prob was exactly what you suggested it was per the instructions, I'm sure of it.
