Any pods have synth built in?

Sign in to disble this ad
I need a synth sound for one small section of one song so I didn't want to go and buy a $150 pedal just for that. So I'm wondering if there is good floor pod that has a bunch of effects including a synthesizer sound?

I believe there's some decent stuff in all of the bass pods synth wise. Getting better as the pods get newer.

Lower you go the more variation or instability of tracking you'll get synth wise if I recall correctly.

Great thanks! Any recommendations?

What do you mean by the "lower you go", do you mean lower in price or lower notes?

What is "instability of tracking"?

Lower note wise.

Any of the synth boxes have more trouble holding a consistent note the lower you go note wise. aka... 'tracking'.

I'm sure others will be able to comment more specifically. I just remember them being there in the Pods i've owned as well as the Bass V-amp's.

"The power of Bass PODXT is now at your feet! Included are over 50 stompbox, synth, and studio effects, 28 bass amp models, plus 22 cab and 4 mic models. "

and from the Line6 X3 Live list of effects:
48. Moog and ARP style synth filters
49. Moog Lead
50. ARP Solina / ElkaŽ Strings

And my experience is that the newer of pods you get the better the Synth sounds.

Korg and some others also offer similar abilities. I'm just not as familiar with those.

I'll be able to comment more accurately tomorrow as a Line6 X3 is on it's way to me and will arrive tomorrow.

I need it for the D note on the A string and the F note on the A string.

I'll check into the BASS PODXT. Thanks again.

Followup:

After spending the weekend with my X3 I can say that you can do some very nice things with the Synth's in it. Still finding my way around it, but thusfar I'm very happy and impressed.

I found that the synths sounded best when I didn't blend in any dry signal (POD X3 and Bass xt). That way the tracking didn't "show" if I recorded it.

The tracking was a little better on the X3 over that of the Bass PODxt, but it still kinda blew.

One multi that really impressed me was the AX3000B by Korg. Awesome tracking based on soundclips that are around here somewhere....

I preferred the sounds 'with' original signal mixed in. heh.

Like DT, I remember hearing a demo someone did on the Korg AX3000B. The synth sounds blew me away - much much much more useful than the BOD XT Live, IMO, which is annoying to me since I bought the Line6 in part FOR the synth section...

I use a line 6 bass floor pod for the synth sound. The ampeg models are decent in a live mix as well. (not the real thing but in a band mix they sound good)

Once you learn how to play to the synth (technique wise) it tracks pretty well.

Not a pod, but you don't have to spend $150 to get some decent synth sounds...

Digitech bass synth wah, $90 new at GC, much less used in TB classifieds (got mine pretty much mint for $55 IIRC) has some decent synth sounds IMHO, plus works very well as an octaver, and has a decent envelope filter. Some people don't like the synth sounds/filter that much, but there seems to be pretty universal agreement that it's good as an octaver. Worth a try anyway if you're trying to save your pennies.

The Zoom B2/B2.1u units have some pretty cool synth sounds as well plus you can add other efx to the patches. The tracking is very fast and accurate and the sustain is quite good useful for synth bass as well as lead lines. I created so many synth sounds on B2.1u that i wound up getting a B2 just for synth sounds.

I like the synth sounds in the old boss ME-8b unit. I have one and can get some pretty good sounds out of it.
